I am a bicultural Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
Becoming a parent is a unique and transformative experience. From the moment of conception through the journey of parenting there is an array of unknown rewards, challenges and experiences. At times parents have no idea how they will feel or react to these challenges and realize that they need help and support through their own journey as parents. Research proves the way we were parented, the environment in which we developed, and the situations around us influence the way we feel and behave as parents.

I have been a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist for over 20 years. My clients and I work together to carefully and compassionately identify and unravel the issues that are causing emotional pain or relational conflict. Together, we identify patterns of thinking and behavior that are intended to be protective but in fact cause depression or anxiety or inadvertantly undermine important relationships.

My work is informed by Transpersonal, Humanistic-Existential, Contemplative, Buddhist & Somatic Psychology, and Nondual Wisdom With COUPLES I focus particular attention in creating & supporting conscious relationships, communication issues, per- marital counseling, separation & divorce, trust & infidelity.
The interface between contemporary psychology and the wisdom of contemplative practice spirituality is central to my work with individuals and couples and to my general approach to therapy. With the use of MINDFULNESS based therapy and a non-judgmental and non-pathological approach I create a healing and supportive environment were growth and transformation can take place through our in depth process of exploration. From this general holistic and contemplative perspective I address a variety of issues of emotional, existential and relational nature with both individuals and couples and would be very happy to help you as well!

I enjoy helping couples discover how to have a new marriage with this same person, leaving behind old patterns that don't work.
Your uniqueness can cause trouble for you in a world that requires conformity to function. But there is a way to know yourself and at the same time meet the people in your world where they are. Awareness of your needs and wants (boundaries) and practices of self-care will help you develop adaptive ways of being in the world that are neither helpless nor combative in the face of conflict, but rather thriving in the process of becoming authentically you.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
