I also work with teens, and with individuals who have issues of grief and loss , career transition, anxiety, sexual abuse, and trauma.
I am currently not taking new clients. Are you feeling emotions that are difficult to handle; issues surfacing that you're ready to take a look at? Feeling stressed, anxious or depressed? Possibly your relationships are strained or unsatisfying. Maybe you're struggling with parenting a teenager, or you are a teenager wanting someone to listen? These are all areas of interest to me. I have worked with individuals, couples for over 22 years and am still amazed that while therapy is often not easy, it is truly worth the effort for most people. I have a calm, supportive, interactive style and welcome working with you.

Life can feel overwhelming, confusing and difficult. Relationships can be challenging. Change and loss can lead to uncertainty. All of this can lead to feelings of anxiety and depression. I help people make sense of their experience, navigate through difficult times and increase their self-awareness to achieve a greater sense of purpose, freedom, and choice in their lives. The therapeutic relationship is a collaborative space where you can work to understand and resolve your feelings, explore thoughts and behaviors that may have you feeling “stuck” in your life and identify relationship patterns that interfere with your well-being.

Are you struggling with trauma, grief , or loss ? As a first-generation Armenian-American from an immigrant family, I understand the unique challenges that come with navigating relationships, family, and work while carrying around the complexities of intergenerational trauma. Grief and loss can take many forms, and not all are widely recognized or supported by society. This is called disenfranchised grief , the type of grieving that can leave you believing you are alone, but the truth is that you are not.

I help adults and couples with relationship and codependency issues, grief and loss , depression, anxiety and addictive patterns with self and others. I help you to create a relationship with yourself and others based on respect, caring and trust. This helps build the feeling of safety that lies at the core of any successful therapy. My goal is to support you in finding and strengthening your own inner voice. When we learn to free ourselves from old, stuck patterns of relating (in mind and body), we often feel a lightness of being that allows us to experience more joy in our everyday lives.

My clinical focus lies in the areas of traumatic life events, grief , loss & bereavement , cross-cultural family conflict & gender transition.
Things that may have felt difficult prior to the pandemic carry a very different load now, as we learn to navigate life with Covid. While the idea of therapy may have felt radical before, it can now offer us a roadmap to developing greater internal strength to steer through the uncertainty. It is deep within our unconscious that we meet our true selves and can then begin the profound work of developing mechanisms for the lives we are seeking. I view it as a great privilege to bear witness to the strength that emerges from the courage of confronting the vulnerability of our own psychology.

This realization can feel very uncomfortable. However, it is the door to finding both your aliveness and yourself as you investigate what you really feel and think about the situations that are distressing in yourself, family and work situations. I'd like to help you make the actual changes that you need to make. I help you find and focus on what is actually alive in you. Specializations include bereavement which may alternate between feelings of melancholy, worthlessness, anger or numbness.
Are you feeling caught between contradictory feelings of hope and despair? Finding a space where we can feel deeply understood is important to developing a secure sense of self. Psychotherapy offers a reflective space to explore the wordless thoughts, the nameless pain or the inner conflicts that may inhibit us. Through therapy a greater sense of integrity and meaning in life is possible. When we respond with genuine understanding and acceptance, hope may be restored and joy found. I listen to clients with openness and intuition. I encourage those I work with to begin to trust their own inner resources and find their own resilience.

I understand I skillfully work with those who are in crisis, managing significant life changes, suffering from grief and loss , sorting out work problems, lacking satisfaction in their intimate relationships and searching for meaningful relationships.
Living a life where struggling is a regular experience is difficult to change, because no one wants to feel worse. Therapy helps by talking through what's happened, what feels wrong and what ideas you have about it, all which may be conscious or unconscious. What's unconscious surfaces naturally through our work together. Most people enter therapy afraid, because they don't know where to start or are overwhelmed because so much has happened. I can help you navigate this terrain to relieve pain, clarify thoughts and beliefs, and improve well-being.

I have completed Hakomi for Couples training, and practice grief counseling and family therapy.
Using a warm, open, non-judgmental and direct approach, I support my clients in connecting with their feelings (not just thoughts), and from there, what will be healing and right for them, in all aspects of their lives. I specialize in adults and couples (all sexual orientations; all types of relationships). My goal for you is not only to reap the benefits of feeling better because your depression has lifted or your anxiety has quelled, but to connect with yourself in such a way that you feel empowered to live the life you choose.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
