Hi there, I'm Kate! Welcome! For the past five years, I have specialized in working with first responders and their families, understanding the unique challenges that come with the job and its impact on loved ones. I believe therapy should be a space where you can unload your concerns without judgment—a place to acknowledge the strengths you already have while developing new skills to support your growth. My goal is to help you navigate life’s stressors and build a healthier, more resilient version of yourself.

You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or like you’re carrying more than you can handle on your own. Maybe you’ve tried to make changes, to hold things together, or to push through—but something still isn’t working, and it’s exhausting. If you’re struggling with addiction, relationship stress, or the impact of past experiences, you don’t have to face it alone. I work with individuals and families navigating complex situations who want things to feel different, even if they’re not sure where to start. My approach is compassionate, grounded, and real. I often work with people who appear strong on the outside but feel overwhelmed.

My professional experience as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, combined with my lived experience in life, makes me a very tried and true, empathetic therapist.
Most of my clients come to me feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or carrying heavy experiences they’ve tried to push through on their own. Many of whom are military veterans, first responders, survivors of human trafficking, or professionals with highly sensitive roles who need a safe, confidential space to process trauma. They’re often dealing with PTSD, anxiety, flashbacks, or relationship struggles, and they’re ready for real change. I can help by combining EMDR with practical, evidence-based tools to reprocess painful memories so they no longer control your present. You’ll gain clarity, reduce anxiety, rebuild trust in yourself again.

I am happy to work with anyone who is seeking some support in facing the normal vicissitudes of life. Not everything has to be a major trauma. Sometimes life is challenging and simple non-biased support is helpful. Other times a major event occurs and it is emotionally devastating. I truly believe that another human being walking with you in that time is crucial to healing. Your needs are what matter to me. I would be honored to accompany you on the path to a more peaceful life.

Mental health as an adult can be daunting even more so when we are trying to figure out who we are and what it means to "be yourself". From the start of adulthood, we barely become adults at 18 years old and we are thrust into the world of responsibilities and expectations of knowing who we are and what we want. On top of that we aren't given much guidance to help us achieve what others expect of us. Thus, we are left navigating life with only the knowledge and experiences that have brought us to this point. Sometimes we've learned adaptive skills that work in any area of life but sometimes we learned skills that no longer serve.

You might be someone others see as “having it together”—responsible, capable, dependable. But on the inside maybe you’re overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally drained, or carrying the impact of past trauma, and not quite like yourself. We work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, and life transitions. Many are used to pushing through alone, so reaching out can feel unfamiliar—but also relieving. In therapy, you don’t have to hold everything in. We’ll make sense of what’s weighing on you and find practical ways to help you feel more grounded, clear, and in control again.

I have over 10 years of experience helping adults, teens, couples, and families in crisis.
Emily is currently accepting new clients. Throughout our lives, we all encounter many defining moments that have lasting imprints on who we are and who we become. Although this is a universal lived experience, not everyone has social support or a plan for how to navigate this process. Therapy is an effective method of providing additional support to help these life transitions seem less daunting and more doable. Emily is committed to working alongside clients to understand their lived experiences, while improving quality of life.

FAQ - Marriage Counseling
What issues does marriage counseling help with?
Marriage counseling can address common relationship concerns, including ongoing conflict, communication challenges, emotional distance, or difficulty making decisions together. It may also be helpful for couples who are not currently experiencing major problems but want to prepare for future life changes. For more specific concerns affecting one individual in the relationship, such as trauma, depression, or significant substance use concerns, individual therapy may be more appropriate than marriage counseling.

When is the right time to start marriage counseling?
There is no single “right” time to start marriage counseling, but certain signs may suggest that counseling could be helpful. For example, a couple may benefit from counseling if many conversations end in conflict, if negative interactions are becoming more frequent, or if relationship stress is affecting other areas of life, such as sleep, work, parenting, or friendships. Some couples also seek counseling proactively. Premarital counseling, for instance, allows couples to discuss communication styles, finances, family dynamics, and future goals before getting married. Other couples may start counseling before a major life change, such as becoming parents, relocating, or navigating a stressful career transition.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Marriage counseling may still help even if one partner is more hesitant to attend, as long as both people are ultimately willing to participate in sessions. Once counseling is underway, the more hesitant partner may become more open to sessions that can strengthen the relationship and build coping skills and communication strategies. If one partner refuses to attend, individual therapy may still help the other partner understand their needs, set boundaries, and decide how to approach the relationship.

Is online marriage counseling as effective as in-person?
There are differing opinions on the best format for marriage counseling. While some studies show that online marriage counseling can be as effective as in-person counseling, some argue that in-person counseling is more effective because it allows the therapist to better pick up on context and body language cues. In addition, in-person counseling may be a better fit for couples who are working through high-conflict issues. Ultimately, the “best” format depends on the couple’s specific needs and concerns.

What is faith-based marriage counseling and how is it different?
Faith-based marriage counseling incorporates a couple’s religious or spiritual beliefs into counseling. It may be a good fit for couples who want to discuss their relationship, values, and marriage within the context of their faith. For example, Christian marriage counseling may appeal to couples who want a counselor familiar with Christian beliefs about marriage. Other forms of faith-based counseling may incorporate Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or other religious perspectives into sessions.

How much does marriage counseling cost and is it covered by insurance?
Marriage counseling often costs $150 to $250 or more per session, depending on location, therapist experience, session length, and practice setting. Marriage counseling is typically not covered by insurance unless it is considered medically necessary and connected to a diagnosable mental health condition. Lower-cost options may be available. For instance, some therapists offer sliding scale fees for lower-income clients, and community clinics may offer counseling at a discounted rate.
