I have specific experience working with
perinatal
and postnatal mental health issues, alcoholic family systems, and am a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator for premarital counseling.
There are many things in life that we feel prepared for. The things we know we can handle. Then there are those things that hit us in the back of the head because we never saw them coming-at least not in the way that we expected. Being blindsided with change can interfere with life in ways we never knew how to expect or handle. Processing this on it’s own might be manageable until we realize we have to combine that with the normal day to day stuff that doesn’t go away. All these things that we used to be able to “handle” all of a sudden leave you feeling stuck, possibly even frightened and unsure of yourself. That’s where I come in.

I have always been attracted to both ends of life's spectrum, birth and death. My work centers around the grief we experience in life, whether over the death of someone we love, the loss of a relationship, or an ending in a chapter of our lives. Our work together is based on a mindful, cognitive behavioral approach, as we gently explore the connection between your emotions and the thoughts behind them. I help you process your grief the way you need to do it and guide you as you find your way back to yourself.

I have specialized training and experience in the treatment of depression and anxiety,
perinatal
mental health, and maintaining “coupleship” after baby.
Feeling overwhelmed or not like yourself lately? Has becoming a mom impacted your relationship? Finding yourself resentful or irritable as times? If this sounds familiar, I would love to connect for a free 15-minute consultation to discuss how I can help. I love helping women and fellow moms to overcome the symptoms of anxiety, depression, or ADHD that have pulled them away from the life that they want. I believe when we gain insight and understanding about what we are experiencing, learn effective strategies to challenge our symptoms, and have the right support, we can take back our lives and things CAN get better.

There are changes in a one’s life that can be overwhelming or difficult to manage. Some life transitions for teens and adults may be so overpowering that it can lead to increased stress, depression, anxiety, feelings of guilt, irritability/anger, grief, and loneliness/isolation. These emotions also come into play on the path to parenthood which is full of surprises.
Pregnancy
, infertility, loss and becoming a parent can be different than expected. It can bring up unexpected feelings like crying frequently, feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, feelings of guilt/blame, and difficulties with adjustment to
pregnancy
or
postpartum
period.

Are you finding it is hard to stay focused and take care of yourself while taking care of others? Perhaps you are navigating health challenges, chronic illness, chronic pain or are going through the process of
pregnancy
to
postpartum
. All of these experiences can really increase anxiety making daily tasks and responsibilities all that much harder to achieve. You put on a brave face so everyone thinks you have it all together & that you're fine, but that's not true. In fact, keeping up the façade that everything is great is leaving you feeling exhausted & you are ready for a change.

I treat individuals and couples dealing with some of the more common issues people encounter in their sex lives: lack of desire, mismatched desire, sexual or pelvic pain; orgasm issues; erection and ejaculation issues; problems secondary to
pregnancy
and the
postpartum
period.
I believe that everybody has the right to a safe, satisfying and pleasurable sex life. I also believe that most people have the answers they need to resolve, or improve their issues, somewhere inside them. I am there to help you uncover those answers in a safe, caring and compassionate way. I believe deeply in treating the whole person.

Infertility, surrogacy, adoption,
pregnancy
and
postpartum
are areas of great interest to me.
Mindfulness, empowerment, self awareness, intention, balance, harmony and unreasonable joy - what are these concepts and how do you apply them to yourself and others to have a life that you love? In a safe and supportive environment uncover conscious and unconscious patterns that help or hinder you and your relationships. Together we explore the human condition, how there is a natural yearning to understand what it is all about and come closer to living your life based on your helping and healing truths. All this can cultivate the best within yourself and those around you.

I enjoy supporting women and couples through

There are many reasons people seek therapy. Most likely, you're here because you're feeling out of balance in some aspect of your life. You may be looking for better ways to cope with depression or anxiety, change patterns that lead to unhealthy behaviors or relationships, or heal from a difficult or traumatic experience. Therapy can help you gain insight about yourself, increase your sense of confidence, or help you explore a new life path with courage and intention. My hope is to provide support, tools, and encouragement to help you find greater balance, authenticity, and overall well-being.

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
