Do you find it difficult to articulate how you're feeling but know that something feels like it's missing? Are you having difficulty accessing your passion or connection to life? The meaningful connection you are seeking may in fact be with parts of yourself. Many of us are secretly wrestling with inner complexities and feeling alone in the process, yet we do not have to be. My goal is to partner with you in a deeper relationship with yourself that results in a deeper presence to your life, an awareness of patterns that may no longer be serving you and forming relationships where you are being seen and loved for your authentic self.

Sometimes with life’s challenges, people can get “stuck” in vicious cycles. If you are here, it means you are taking the steps to break this cycle. I value that the client does most of the talking & my role is to be an active and nonjudgmental listener. I often jump in and challenge the client when appropriate and I actively teach new skills and tools.

You're going about your day to day barely holding it together. You want to talk about what bothers you with your friends and family, but the stigma, or guilt or shame keep you quiet. You feel like no one will get it, or that opening up will make you seem "less than" to those who count on you the most. You keep telling yourself "it's not that bad" or "you're just over reacting get it together." You know that something is off, and for the first time you don't know how to deal with it.

My theoretical orientation is psychodynamic. Using the most appropriate and beneficial modality that fits with the client and their needs. I work collaboratively with a client to arrive at their personal goals in therapy. I have found life is a journey of learning how to live to the fullest with all the gifts that we possess and discovering others along the way. With all the experiences that we have in this life, a persons perspective makes a huge difference in how they experience it. My hope is to help find the perspective that helps alleviate suffering and creates a space for healing and thriving.

Welcome to my practice. I have about 15 years of clinical experience and have been featured on NBC/KCAL/HLN as an expert psychologist. I work primarily with men who have hit “rock bottom” and would like help getting up. These men are often in crisis when we first meet. The issues I address are typically related to unhealthy sexual behaviors, infidelity, financial recklessness, gambling, drugs/alcohol, dishonesty/lying, and relational conflicts. My therapy approach is a combination of psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and the 12-Step recovery model. I also share insight from my own painful but redemptive recovery journey.

My passion in life is to help people who are going through trauma, stress, anxiety and depression find hope. I help clients, including adolescents, adults and families, identify their own strengths from within so that they can discover a healthy perception of themselves, improve relationships, and find a sense of being complete and at peace.

Life can be overwhelming. Ongoing problems can leave us frustrated and defeated. Anxiety, depression, trauma, drug and alcohol dependence, relationship conflict, or isolation make it even harder to cope. The joy and spirit of life that we once had seems far gone. We may feel like we've been holding it together for weeks, months, or even years. At our lowest we lose perspective and believe things will never change. We don't want to be this way anymore. Life shouldn't feel this hard.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
