I offer art and play therapy for children .
Sometimes people are stuck in an unhealthy pattern of interacting with themselves or with others. I help clients understand why they have that unhealthy pattern, and I help them create the changes they want. I help clients unlock the things that are keeping them stuck, and I help them move forward in life. I help children process and understand things that are happening in their life, especially if those things are overwhelming. I believe that sometimes a person needs to have some extra help in their life journey. I want to be your ally during this part of your life.

I enjoy working with clients of all ages. My specialty is children , adolescents and young adults. I am relationship based, meaning it is important for my clients to feel comfortable with me. . I incorporate educational information and skill development into sessions and role model and practice new skills. Cognitive behavior therapy is the foundation for much of the work we do. Children often express their feelings best in play. I often utilize games, art , stories and imaginative play to help children communicate their feelings. Parents of children are integral to the success of therapy and become partners in the treatment of their son or daughter.

If I am working with children I also work closely with parents, to help work out effective ways to support your child or deal with challenging situations.
Depression and anxiety can both frightening and overwhelming for children and adults. If you are feeling like you have lost interest in things you used to love, a sense of hopelessness, difficulty falling asleep, feeling empty, wanting to harm yourself, panic attacks, irritable moods we will work together in order to help you have the courage to face your fears and move forward in these uncertain times. The more vulnerable and open you are willing to be with your personal story the more powerful you will become. Let me guide you through this journey with compassion and a willingness to understand and to connect.

I use evidence-based techniques including Parent and Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Child Therapy, Family Therapy, trauma-informed play therapy, and art therapy to uncover, heal, and provide a new way of relating to one another.
Parents, are you finding yourself exhausted from having yet another argument with your spouse about what to do with your children who continue to behave poorly? Or perhaps you look around at your family and feel sad that you aren’t connecting the way you used to. Your child may be moody, anxious, or seem depressed and you don’t know why or how it came to be this way. You would like support and some extra tools in your toolbox to handle the family stress and are in dire need of some relief.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
