Have you accomplished a lot, yet still feel like you’re struggling at the same time? Others may see you as successful, while inside your life feels unmanageable or out of control. You know you’re intelligent and usually an excellent problem solver, yet certain areas—like eating, relationships, or keeping your space in order—don’t respond to logic alone. I help high achievers, especially those in creative fields, get unstuck from patterns that no longer serve them. If you can talk about your challenges but still feel like real answers keep slipping away, I offer a new route toward understanding and lasting change.

My role as a psychotherapist is to accompany people on their courageous journeys of healing, discovery, and self-expression. I enjoy working with individuals who are curious and inspired to take their inner work seriously. I believe that the narratives we tell about ourselves hold tremendous power and that, through our work together, we can become more conscious of how these stories shape our lives in order to find opportunities for new understanding and meaning making. As a depth psychotherapist, I have reverence for the wisdom of psyche, the unconscious, to help guide us to explore parts of ourselves in order to become more whole.

Therapy is most effective when it is customized to meet the needs of the individual and incorporates flexibility, authenticity, and a touch of humor. This occurs within a therapeutic relationship where there is trust, openness, and warmth. I believe in the inherent resilience of people and view therapy as an opportunity to build on the strengths we naturally posses. My therapeutic style is supportive, engaged, and collaborative. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults. I am licensed in New York and California.

I am an interactive therapist. I help clients attain their therapy goals more quickly by taking an active role, rather than simply mirroring their feelings, which I also do. I focus primarily on mind/body connections, however, my overall approach is creative and eclectic. In therapy we explore the past, finding connections to current patterns that cause pain and dysfunction; then work on bringing the client's life into balance. I have many years working in business, schools and private practice, working with depression, anxiety, panic, PTSD, addictions, bereavement, relationship problems, occupational stresses, at-risk adolescents and marital problems.

I specialize in self esteem, anxiety, couples therapy, ADHD, and neurodivergent learners—which basically means I spend a lot of time helping people untangle big feelings, complex relationships, and the everyday chaos of being human. My clients typically struggle with emotional overwhelm, relational pain, or patterns they don’t yet know how to change. Couples are often dealing with infidelity or a lack of communication skills. They are looking for something deeper than traditional talk therapy, they’re ready for a more creative, embodied, and emotionally connected way of growing and moving forward.

I have 20 years experience helping individuals, couples and groups find deeper meaning, satisfaction and inspiration in their unique experience of life. Individuals are often led to therapy by symptoms - anxiety, depression, panic attacks, failed relationships, compulsions and addictions, phobias, post-traumatic reactions and self-destructive behavior. Although symptoms can seem random and be destructive, they are important messengers guiding us toward introspection and growth. In psychotherapy we discover what lies beneath the surface of symptoms; we uncover that which has previously been unconscious.

“Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful parts of us”-David Richo. Many of us struggle with the wounds of our past, the pain we might be struggling with in our present, or the uncertainty of our future. Change can be scary; and sometimes it feels easier to stay in the known, even when that brings fear, pain, or resentment. You being here recognizes there is a part of you that is interested in changing. I come to you as a woman of color, a child of Indian immigrants, a mother, and a therapist – these roles influence my approach.

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, dissatisfied in relationships, anxious, depressed, and unsafe or uncomfortable in their bodies. Most people know what they want to change but it’s difficult because we are habitual creatures; we want to show up in the world in a different way but we’re drawn to the familiar way of doing and being. I can help you understand more about how your history, and the history of the generations before you, influences your current way of being in the world. I can help you get present and discover a more authentic way of living.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
