I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, and members of the LGBTQ population to help you on your path toward living a happier, more satisfying life. In over nineteen years of experience as a therapist I have successfully helped people cope with anxiety, depression , addiction, co-dependency, foster care, adoption, grief and loss, phase-of-life changes, and issues related to spirituality. I am sensitive to the ways cultural factors - ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, immigration status - affect our emotional and mental well-being, an awareness that is strongly incorporated into my work.

I specialize in working with youth and young adults aged 12-25, who are experiencing difficulty with life and family transitions, anxiety, and depression . Young adulthood is an exciting time rich with change and growth for most youth, but it may also be a scary or difficult time, particularly if there are other factors at play, including stress or changes within the family, school, or social networks. In addition to stressors, negative or maladaptive thoughts or behaviors can contribute to or exacerbate feelings of anxiety or depression .

My clinical focuses include: identity development, anxiety, depression , relationship/interpersonal difficulties, multicultural counseling (affirmative, competent therapy with POC), and I specialize in working with LGBTQ clients.
We sometimes hit points in our life where we need extra support to examine ourselves/our relationships, acquire new skills/perspectives or learn how better cope through a difficult time. It can be intimidating to take this step in exploring your life and working towards change, and I want to make that journey as safe and beneficial as possible. I view therapy as an exploration process, where client and therapist collaboratively work together to create insight and positive change.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
