Evenings • Weekends • Brainspotting • EMDR • Sometimes we reach a season of life that we need a little help navigating, and the good news is that you do not have to do it alone. I wholeheartedly believe, "when needing compassion, we need someone who is deeply rooted, is able to bend and, most of all, embraces us for our strengths and struggles," Brene Brown. Our clinicians at Second Wind Counseling work with a wide scope of clients who have experienced low self-esteem, phobias, trauma, abuse, relational issues, sexual violence and assault, recovery, codependency, academic or performance anxiety and depression.

Have you ever felt alone in a room full of people? Do you want to connect but are afraid to trust? Do you wonder why your relationships and friendships continually fail? Have you ever been afraid to let people see you because you think they might see your brokenness from childhood trauma and abuse? You’re not alone. I would love to help you understand and take all your broke pieces and turn them into the beautiful, strong you that you are meant to be.

Anger, Rage, Intense emotions can affect you and the people around you. When your anger turns to constant irritability and you start to 'act out' in unhealthy ways, it's time to get support. When ones sadness or loss becomes deeper and darker it could be depression. Most of these emotions are felt with such intensity that it's overwhelming. Sex and Porn Addiction along with Partner Trauma Betrayal is going to feel very intense and working with someone who has additional expertise in this area is going to be so important for your healing. Couples work with me because they feel safe and supported.

Everyone faces difficulties in their lives, using Christian principals and beliefs, helping the client being able to overcome his or her circumstances and not let life 's problems overtake you. You should live a life of joy and happiness. Loss and grief happens everyday, with help you can work through it. Therapists can treat symptoms but all therapists look for the root of the client's problem, work with the client to help solve the problem, thereby the client can move forward out of the problem.

I believe each of us were designed for deep relationship and long for a sense of acceptance and belonging. So often however, we seem unable to experience authentic connection or intimacy with others. Though we reach out, we may feel unseen and unheard, eventually withdrawing, questioning our worth, and losing our ability to know and share our true self. The loneliness at times may feel overwhelming, as if there is no one to help us carry our confusion, hurts, or fears. It is in these times we may need someone with whom we can share our burdens, someone who will hear our brokenness and accept us as we are.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
