I make it safe for you to see how problems come from over-pursuing certainty or trying to fill a sense of 'lack', whether in life or inside ( Psychodynamic, Existential).
Frustrated. Anxious. Edgy. Tearful. Are you uncertain of who you’ve become or want to be? Longing to exit vicious circles? For comfort or certainty’s sake, you could double down on pleasing others, stay home on your screen of choice, try to read or absorb endless data before you commit, or just vow to not need anyone or be influenced by them. Immediate anxiety gets managed, but you still end up with hurt, resentment, dread, FOMO, perfectionist traps, or loneliness. Here’s something odd: to reduce fear, increase hope, accept your nature, and embrace your desires, you must let go of what looks like control and certainty.

I use an integrative approach, utilizing interpersonal and psychodynamic approaches, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions.
Engaging in therapy can be rewarding albiet difficult work! This is why finding the right therapist is vital. Therapy is a collaborative process that grows out of a safe, caring relationship where you can explore your deepest concerns, as you move toward becoming the person you long to be. The process of therapy differs for everyone, as we all have our own needs, desires, and stories. I have deep respect for the uniqueness of each individual and find that people experience healing through increased self-understanding, experiencing safety and openness in therapy, and mobilizing supportive social networks.

I practice from two different modalities: Reality Therapy and Insight Therapy. Reality Therapy (Choice-Centered approach) helps the patient determine how effective their behaviors have been in fulfilling their needs and then works with the patient to determine a plan for more effective actions. Insight Therapy encourages empowerment of the individual which implies personal responsibility for one's behavior. I specialize in working with patients needing assistance with Anger Management, Marital/Premarital Counseling, Individual/Adolescent Counseling, Loss & Bereavement Recovery, Sexual Addiction/Recovery, Personal Growth & Enrichment, and Divorce Healing. I also possess knowledge in understanding acute mental illness symptoms from my training at Riverside Psyciatric Hospital.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
