Maybe you’ve tried everything; talking to friends/ family, reading self-help books, ignoring the problem hoping it will go away, or just accepting how things are and yet you are feeling unhappy and stuck.
I use Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy to uncover couple's negative cycle helping them make positive changes. For individuals I use Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, Brainspotting for trauma, and other therapeutic therapies. I see therapy as a collaborative partnership between therapist and client who work together on goals toward the life you want.

I am prepared to help bring healing and peace to you and your family.
As a Registered Play Therapist, my mission is to bring healing to children, teens, and adults through the power of play. I specialize in treating individuals, couples, and families struggling with issues related to divorce, foster/adoption, abuse, child misbehavior (acting out), bullying, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and relationship problems. Because I incorporate play-based techniques into my practice, I am especially effective with young children (ages 3+) who struggle to express themselves verbally. My clients learn to express their emotions, take responsibility for their actions, develop better solutions to their problems, and interact more positively with the people around them.

Because I believe the relationship between client and therapist is a crucial aspect of treatment, I offer a free consultation to determine if I am the right person to work with you or your family.
As a therapist, I understand how difficult it might be to take the first step toward healing. I have spent several years helping, assisting, and supporting others to do this very thing. My work with each client is unique; I use a blend of techniques which include client-centered, trauma focused, attachment focused, and solution-focused methods - focusing on the client's goals, as well as their strengths. My aim is to provide a compassionate and non-judgmental space to explore concerns, while balancing empathy with an engaged and interactive style.

I grew up in a family with 4 other siblings and have experience working in hospitals, non-profit organizations, and residential treatment facilities.
My approach to therapy is person centered and I use validation as my foundation. I hold the assumption that we are all trying our best and that there is always room to learn, grow, and practice acceptance. In sessions together you can expect to connect with how you are currently experiencing emotions, to work through problematic thoughts beliefs or assumptions, and to explore situations and relationships and how exactly they may be having an impact on you. My goal as a therapist is to provide a space where you can connect and feel understood as well as challenged in a way that is helpful for you.

I offer sessions with after school and evening options most days during the week to meet busy family needs,
It takes great courage to seek help, and is a particularly difficult task when you are a parent of child who is struggling behaviorally and emotionally. I believe through therapy, children and adults find their resilience and courage within to overcome life's biggest obstacles and find their path to the successes they desire in life. The power of a child finding their voice or a parent building their toolbox of responses to difficult behaviors are some of my main focuses.

However, my primary methods and modalities of practice include Client-Centered, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS), with a healthy sprinkle of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) thrown in for good measure.
Seeking help is never a sign of weakness, but what can really make a difference is who you seek the help from. Helping others is not just a job for me, but a passion. I believe that we can all live happier and healthier lives once we remove the barriers that stand in the way. This is where having a good therapist can make the world of difference.

Hi, I'm Stephanie, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at Innerpeace Therapy in Upland, California.
I believe that therapy should be person led and not one size fits all; it requires the therapist to individualize their interventions in order to provide a safe place that meets the client’s strengths and challenges the patterns that no longer serve them. I also believe it requires the client to be open about their needs and goals to grow through therapy.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
