I work with people from various backgrounds including tech workers juggling demanding jobs with personal life, immigrants grappling with a cultural shift and its impact on their identity, and those in crisis seeking relief from their pain.
I am interested in how inter-generational trauma impacts relationship patterns, health issues stemming from imbalances in life, anxiety and depression, multi-cultural relationships, and more. I practice Psychodynamic and Relational approaches where I work with the unconscious to understand the circumstances the problems were originally created for.

You might have tried to OUT-PERFORM your pain.
The type of therapy I offer, EMDR therapy, is not the same as the therapy you see on TV. You’ll get to tell your story, absolutely. But the approach is totally different. You’ll face your past and get ready for your future at your pace, in a safe space, with me as an encouraging guide. I’m not afraid of your memories. You don’t have to be afraid either.

My goal is to restore health, well-being, and purpose, and to facilitate connection between clients and their loved ones. I believe that problems arise when people become disconnected from themselves and others. They become stuck in patterns of fear and anxious clinging, detachment and avoidance, disappointment and anger. The unpleasant residue of old traumas, disappointments, and losses interferes with people's success and joy in life. I help people release old patterns and reconnect to their life energy so they can enjoy healthy functioning, experience lovingkindness for self and others, and remember their life purpose.

"It's all done with mirrors." I believe that the world is our mirror and reflects to us what we believe on the inside. You may not be able to change your situation, but changing your insides can drastically affect how you see your world, and thereby, how you respond. By owning your perceptions and working through the source of those perceptions can you make yourself more effective in your relationships, more at ease with your circumstances (when appropriate) and ultimately experience yourself as more powerful in your life. It is inspiring to witness people expanding and their relationships deepening.

Are you falling apart behind the scenes? You might go at 100 miles an hour at work or school, but then find yourself completely burnt out and turning to scrolling, smoking, or zoning out to feel better. Perhaps your relationship with your family is rocky (at best). You may be feeling disconnected and moody, sometimes for no reason. And even though you’re trying to stay calm and be rational, you keep getting caught up with feelings of anger, anxiety, and shame. Maybe you've gotten really good at taking care of everyone else, but you haven't quite figured out how to take care of you. You're in the right place. :)

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
