You may be noticing that you don't feel like yourself and wondering if there's something wrong with you. Your relationship has changed, it's hard to get any work done or focus. You dread getting out of bed, which leaves you feeling guilty and stuck. Or maybe you just worry about everything. You want to connect more deeply with your friends, or to experience the love in your relationship that you used to feel. You want more excitement and meaning. And on top of it all, you feel that no one understands what you go through or you have no one to talk to about it: you feel alone.

I have training in various forms of therapy, primarily drawing from ACT, Narrative therapy, and EMDR to help you understand and process what has happened, why you feel, think, and act the way you do and to help you develop new insights and ways of being that feel more authentic to who you are and who you want to be.
Whether it’s due to genetics, difficult events in our childhood, unforeseen life circumstances, or painful relationships sometimes we feel like we have been created or forced into ways of being that are painful. Sometimes those traumas show up as depression or anxiety, sometimes as dissociation or feelings we don't belong. I’m passionate about working with folks who recognize the pain of big and small traumas alike, and care about making the world a better place for us all to exist in. Sometimes that means understanding what happened to us better, sometimes that means changing our relationships with others and/or ourselves.

I take an approach that promotes awareness, compassion, acceptance, and is in alignment with what is meaningful in your life.
One of the things that I believe to be a key component to successful therapy is trust in the client-therapist relationship. I do my best to create a warm and inviting space for you where we could talk about the difficult things. It’s important that you feel honored in this process, so if something isn’t quite working out, let’s talk about it. Our work is a collaboration. Therapy can be hard, but things don’t always have to be heavy in the therapy room. If you appreciate humor, I definitely use it (when appropriate) and you might laugh in sessions.

Anger, Rage, Intense emotions can affect you and the people around you. When your anger turns to constant irritability and you start to 'act out' in unhealthy ways, it's time to get support. When ones sadness or loss becomes deeper and darker it could be depression. Most of these emotions are felt with such intensity that it's overwhelming. Sex and Porn Addiction along with Partner Trauma Betrayal is going to feel very intense and working with someone who has additional expertise in this area is going to be so important for your healing. Couples work with me because they feel safe and supported.

In the past 5 years working with others, I skillfully use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Therapy.
With this nonstop world effecting each person differently, I enjoy working with others where they are in their lives and where they want to be. It is my honor to work and support people in their journey on finding who they are, where they want to be, making sense what is going on, and getting back to their values that supports their internal and external world. I adroitly work with adolescences and adults to effectively manager symptoms of addiction, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and impulsivity actions.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
