I have extensive experiences in working with individuals who had painful experiences and continue to suffer from these memories. My goal is not only to treat trauma symptoms, but to help people grow from their painful experiences. Through my treatment, you can overcome any negative thoughts associated with trauma and gain trust and confidence in people and yourself. My approach includes evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), such as Prolonged Exposure and STAIR/NST. You will learn many tools to manage your trauma related symptoms, which can be used after my treatment.

Psychotherapy is an individualized service to help someone in an impasse in life. Anyone may get stuck in efforts like: a young child in school, a student with academic challenges, an adolescent with identity questions, or an adult dealing with career choices or trying to maintain an intimate
relationship
. Each person is unique, so that we will first spend some time understanding you, developing trust, and establishing initial directions for our joint efforts. Therapy may vary in length, depending on what your concerns are: a few sessions, a few months, or more extended if to your benefit.

Therapy provides a sacred space that lifts the burden of having to do things on your own and invites you (and your
partner
) into the experience of being uniquely seen and accepted.
Many people hit a point in their lives where they doubt in their capacity to heal or even deal with life’s circumstances. Maybe you're someone who has anxiously tried to make it work on your own until you’ve found yourself stuck in patterns and convoluted stories that no longer work for you. The process of sifting through what's true or false can feel isolating and lonely when navigating that on your own. But I want to offer the idea that maybe you were never meant to be alone in that process.

I believe in the importance of creating a trusting, safe and collaborative therapeutic
relationship
with my clients. I view each session as an opportunity to grow by working through personal challenges, developing greater self-awareness, learning to set healthy boundaries, and exploring the positive and negative styles of thinking. I believe that although treating symptoms is important, people must look at the deeper underlying issues that might include low self-esteem, codependency, or childhood trauma.

In counseling
couples
I follow the modality created by Terry Real called "Relational Life Therapy" or "RLT" for short.
Helping people achieve their goals is my passion. I want to help you to create the life and loving relationships you long for. The benefits of working with an older counselor are many. I’ve experienced both a loving, healthy marriage and a difficult, unsustainable one. I understand both and this understanding informs my work with
couples
and individuals experiencing difficulties in their relationships. I also know what it takes to have a successful career, and how to manage the stressors it places on you and your important relationships.

relationship
issues? I can especially help those with anxiety/panic attacks. I make it a priority to help clients with buried feelings who have trouble speaking on their emotions. Communicating emotionally is extremely important to promote well-rounded and mature adults. I will help you enhance your self-awareness around unhelpful thought and behavior patterns and build skills necessary to handle life more effectively and develop actionable steps to reach your goals.

Like any
relationship
, the therapeutic
relationship
is essential.
In my practice I tend to work with clients, ages 4 - 85+, dealing with anything from anxiety, depression, trauma, career, social issues, and other things causing turbulence in their life. Also, I work with individuals,
couples
, and families on how they can best function in the world. Depending on the client's needs I work with them to create a customized treatment plan best for their needs. I am also a collaborative therapist that wants the client to have an active voice in their journey. Therapy is different for each individual and I value helping the client pursue the change they are seeking.

Have worked with men, women, children, adolescents and
couples
in more than 15 years in the practice of psychotherapy.
Issues may be present for you that you not sure how to address, and you may be hesitant to seek help. I am a former professor of psychology for the University of Phoenix. As a therapist, a teacher and also as having had my own therapy for a number of years,
I have learned that taking the first step and admitting a problem is always the hardest step to take. Do not hesitate and do not let fear keep you from taking that crucial first step; call or write me or another therapist of your choosing and do obtain the help that you may need.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
