As a psychologist, I allow the space for individuals to gain insight and growth in their lives that help them reach their goals and aspirations. We all encounter challenges, whether it be someone suffering from anxiety and depression, a family who just found out their child has a medical issue, a child with fears, or a
teen
who has been bullied. During these unfortunate times what is needed is someone to connect with and help you out of this dark cave of distress. One of my greatest strengths has been the ability to connect with others and reveal the ways through this emotional distress.

Are you a child,
adolescent
or adult having difficulty functioning at work, school, or in relationships? Sometimes a history of trauma, self defeating and limiting belief systems interfere with our ability to love, work and play. I can help when old ways of adapting to stressors no longer work. Change is necessary at the mind, body and spiritual level for adaptation to occur. We will work together through your transformation. You can learn new ways to tolerate what has been overwhelming and you can develop new, healthier coping skills to help you manage what was formerly intolerable about daily living.

Individual, couples, family, and
adolescent
therapy services available in English and Spanish.
I was trained in rendering brief and short term therapy since we all want quick results. How do I do that? I am interactive with my clients and not just provide “talk therapy”, but rather, we will co-create a plan together to help you achieve positive results. I hold my clients accountable and will assign homework. I will give you my input, impressions, and at times, challenge you when those defenses are up. In life, when we’re faced with challenges, it only promotes growth and strength. At the same time, we will give you the positive regard, reflective listening, and be your cheerleader. We will empower you, not enable you.

Psychotherapy is an individualized service to help someone in an impasse in life. Anyone may get stuck in efforts like: a young child in school, a student with academic challenges, an
adolescent
with identity questions, or an adult dealing with career choices or trying to maintain an intimate relationship. Each person is unique, so that we will first spend some time understanding you, developing trust, and establishing initial directions for our joint efforts. Therapy may vary in length, depending on what your concerns are: a few sessions, a few months, or more extended if to your benefit.

You and your
teen
can learn to understand each other’s struggles as they become secure in their identity and capabilities, discover a sense of control, and develop hope, direction, and joy.
Has your child started to seem less like themselves and more sensitive, withdrawn, anxious, or down? Does it feel harder than ever to reach them when you just want to help? Are the stress, worry, and conflict exhausting you both? Adolescence is a vital yet often confusing and painful stage of our life filled with uncertainty. Children are not immune to the sorrow, anger, and desperation that can creep in as we face difficult and unfamiliar situations. It can be hard for your
teen
to trust this period of growth can be easier, but if you are here, seeking support for them, they are closer to relief than they think!

In life there is pain. Painful experiences growing up that stay inside and manifest in our everyday behavior and internal struggles. In my work, whether the person is a child,
teen
, young adult, parent, or woman, I aim to provide a space of compassion and safety from which to understand the world around us (relationships, school, work, friendships) and the internal world within us (thoughts, emotions, pain, discomfort). The goal in my work is to help you/your child get in touch with, tune in, and understand themselves; in particular thoughts and feelings.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
