Psychotherapy is a personal experience. I treat and support individuals and couples who are struggling with worries, sadness, and relationship difficulties, or who feel "stuck" in their lives in some way. I also have special training in helping individuals cope with medical illnesses, grief and loss, and trauma. As well, I work with high-achieving individuals who are striving for balance and personal satisfaction in their lives. I work collaboratively and compassionately to reduce current distressing symptoms and to examine long-standing patterns. My approach is interpersonal and psychodynamic.

I help you dissolve emotional triggers so that you learn to access real ease and discover how to end unhelpful reactions and ingrained habits that make living in your head, in your body and in your relationships challenging and exhausting. When you do this work, you not only heal addictive loops but also free yourself from feeling at the mercy of mood swings, triggering relationship patterns and emotional rollercoasters.

Warm, experienced, down-to-earth, effective... I think good therapy calls for sensitivity, genuineness, open-mindedness, honesty, and having your best interests at heart. During our work together, I will listen deeply to your struggles, help clarify aspects that you may not be aware of, and offer tools and interventions relevant to your problems. I can help you move forward from painful places, uncover your full potential, feel better about yourself, improve your relationships, clear anxiety and depression, and navigate life according to your values. I also have specialization in trauma recovery, PTSD, and traumatic loss.

I work with individuals, couples, and adolescents. My approach is warm, inviting, and client-centered. Each session, we begin with what's most present for you, following aliveness as it unfolds - moment-to-moment, wherever it leads. The process has its own intelligence and is highly trustworthy. You bring all of you - light and shadow, blessings and challenges, interests and needs - as well as whatever hurts, feels stuck, or is ready to be released or reclaimed. I bring all of me - presence and deep listening, non-judgment and curiosity, intuition, theory and tools. Together, we co-create ways of working that are unique to you.

This means I focus on your relationships (current and past) and use an attachment-based lens to look at how you relate to the people in your life.
Relationships are wonderful. But there are also times when a couple can feel stuck. They find themselves replaying the same fights, feeling lonely and unseen, and running into the same roadblocks time after time. I help couples to open up to each other, improve their sense of trust and connection, and create greater emotional intimacy. Often, as they become more emotionally intimate, their level of physical intimacy also improves.

Let us help guide you through this journey!

Now accepting clients for the 25-26 school year. I am fascinated by the resilience of the human body/mind to withstand stress and continue to grow. How we evolve in reaction to adversity can be automatic or we can learn to have more choice in our responsiveness. Therapy is the process of learning to slow down, reflect, and move forward with greater influence over our actions. Connecting teens with the ability to be self-reflective early in their lives will be a resource as they mature. Adolescence is a potent time to intervene with destructive behaviors and redirect for success.

I trained primarily in psychodynamic, family systems and attachment-based therapies.
Therapy is a collaborative relationship, as individual as the people in the room. Often the work involves slowing down and creating a secure space for being open, curious and able to revisit and make sense of thoughts, memories and feelings that give rise to present difficulties. I'm especially attentive to your higher powers of perception and positive self determination. Together we resolve present-day problems with roots in the past, changing patterns that produce familiar and unwanted results so you are freer to choose the life you want.

Therapy with me is collaborative, warm, and grounded in a genuine curiosity about who you are. I bring humor when it fits and create space for you to show up authentically—not as someone who needs to be fixed, but as someone navigating real challenges anchored in your life's context. Work with me is psychodynamic and relational in nature which means I believe lasting change comes from understanding your past and patterns. I draw on different modalities including attachment theory, systems thinking, parts work, and IFS to work towards your goals and a life that feels genuinely yours.

I help individuals, teens and couples work through transitions and difficult stages in their lives and relationships. I have over 15 years of experience in helping individuals, couples and families learn problem solving techniques, coping skills, improved communication and stress management. My approach is warm, interactive and solution-focused. I believe that everyone has strengths, but during stressful times they may need help accessing those strengths. It can be helpful during those times to have an objective professional that provides support, perspective and guidance to make positive changes.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
