FOR DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, RELATIONSHIPS, ADDICTION, TRAUMA: I blend psychology and
spirituality
to treat uncomfortable emotions, relationship issues, feelings of isolation, the monkey mind of the ego, as well as heavy, stuck energy that needs releasing. Psychodynamic therapy, guided meditation, and shamanic modes of healing can help shift the way you think and feel. As Einstein put it: "No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it." Using an integrative approach we will connect with your higher self and beyond to experience real transformation and change of consciousness.

SEXUAL healing: I can listen to any story - those uncomfortable experiences that are hard to talk about, the confusion over how to use sexuality well. The sexual shame. I have heard it before. Come tell me what you haven't been able to say. It's all confidential. I help with abuse history when needed, sexual addiction, and issues of couples that interfere with loving each other. I have written books on how to heal sexuality individually or as a couple. I also work with smart and GIFTED people, understanding how it makes you feel separate, sometimes isolated. This could be because you really are different.

We will examine your present needs and personal goals, and together we will determine the best course of action. I highly respect your integrity and belief system, and we will work together to uncover the wisdom that lies within you.

Relationships are a dominant presence in our lives; we are meant to be relational. The relationships we remember from the past, experience in the present, and anticipate in the future are perhaps the most influential force in shaping who we are. I believe there are three types of relationships that therapy can foster health in - a person's relationship with himself or herself, a person's relationship with other people, and, for people of faith, a person's relationship with God. There is perhaps no better gift that could be received than a healthier relationship in these areas.

“Imperfections are not inadequacies; they are reminders that we’re all in this together. Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy...Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”– Brené Brown. Whether you want to improve boundaries, increase self-esteem, address anxiety/depression, become a more effective parent or have more positive and meaningful relationships I am here to help you to achieve your goals.

If you are ready to get better, I am here to help you.
Specializing in depression, anxiety and couples therapy, I can help you to better understand yourself. Without even being aware of it, many of us recreate the same destructive patterns in life over and over again. Through the process of therapy, these patterns can be broken and a new and happy you can take hold. But you won't feel better without first understanding what makes you do the things you do.

Dr. van der Kolk writes that "Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives." My approach to therapy is grounded in this concept. I believe that healing from emotional suffering takes place when the client feels deeply heard and understood. I believe that effective therapy is a collaborative process between client and therapist and that my job is to hold the space for my clients to explore the fears and anxieties that impede their growth and sense of well being.

Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.
What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.
Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.
How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
