Although I thoroughly enjoy individual psychotherapy, I also realize the value of
family
sessions and try to incoporate
family
work as needed.
Although I work with children and adolescents individually, working with them alone is not sufficient. As a parent myself, I am very aware of what it is like for me to entrust my childrens' care into the hands of another. In order for treatment to be successful and for my clients to feel secure in the treatment process, I thus believe it is essential to incorporate working with parents into the treatment of the child. In addition to specializing in treating children and adolescents, I also offer services to college-aged individuals and older adults.

You feel a sense of anxiety or dread that you just can’t shake. You don’t feel supported by your partner. Your pregnancy or parenthood isn’t what you expected it to be. You are at your wit's end and don’t know where to turn. I am here to tell you, we’ve all been there and there is hope. I believe each person comes to therapy with unique strengths. Together we will highlight those strengths and work through the obstacles which inhibit you.

Life is not black & white, the beauty is in the grey. I believe that everybody deserves support in their journey toward meaning and connection. The absence of support, meaning, purpose, or connection can lead to disorder and dysfunction. It is my privilege as a therapist to watch others explore and create a full life. My work focuses on the unique struggles of the individual, couple, or
family
. I use story, feedback, empathy, and education to help each client discover balance and their authentic self. My hope is that each person I get to work with learns the tools that work for them and can embrace the grey areas in life.

I imagine that on most days we all work hard to do the best for our children. No matter how hard some of their challenging behaviors may be; you have love, patience, understanding, and most of all you continue to try to be creative and consistent. But in the end, something just is not working. You continue to ask your friends and
family
for support and advice, yet you are growing more stressed and tired by the minute. I can help your adolescent come to understand, and work through their struggles and challenges.Adolescence can be a time in life that can be complicated, demanding, and sometimes confusing for both you and your teen.

Sometimes, painful ruptures in a marriage, or
family
become overwhelming to repair by the individual's alone, and communication becomes stagnant.
I specialize in treating treating high achieving individuals & couples, with perfectionist tendencies. My priority is your emotional safety. Non judgmental support allows for your sharing openly and honestly. The need to "be right" can be unconscious, & you may be hurting those you love. My skilled intuition, and 25+ yrs. of clinical success, knows hope is available for the motivated and committed recovering anxious, obsessive, & over analyzing adult. Our trusting relationship inspires you to reflect upon your life/relationship goals; together we explore, & honestly challenge: "Do I want to be right?" Or, do I want to be loved?"

The focus of my work is helping couples improve communication and navigate life transitions including being newly married, expecting a baby, or welcoming a new baby into the
family
. I believe that we can benefit from learning about our own communication patterns as well as the patterns of our partners. By gaining a deeper understanding of the needs within the relationship, couples can find more effective ways to communicate with each other and successfully support each other through life's stressors and transitions.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
