Parenthood can cause an enormous burden on a couple’s
relationship
and ultimately the family.
Parenthood brings with it some of the most beautiful and trying times in one’s life. Small moments, big feelings and an ever changing horizon of milestones and laughter are the hallmarks of parenthood. But what about the moments of sadness, worry and loss of identity that parents often feel? Who holds the mother and father as they watch their child walk through new and sometimes scary beginnings? How do
couples
stay connected to one another while navigating the endless list of new tasks that parenthood comes with? And how do you coparent when tensions run high amidst split families?

I work collaboratively with adults, teens, and
couples
, in an outpatient setting.
When we think about all the pain and suffering we endure during our lifetime, how much of it is necessary, and how much of it is avoidable? It is my belief that most individuals have the power to drastically change their own circumstances; yet we may falter by falling victim to our old routines and habits. The therapeutic journey is about questioning these automatic responses, while empowering you to take the steps needed to create long-lasting change. “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” - Viktor Frankl

Are you walking on eggshells? Do you even know how to say what you are feeling? Are you looking for connection and only finding disconnection? Does it seem like you are haunted by the past? Sometimes depression and anxiety tell you how you should feel. Sometimes your history likes to persuade you to believe that it knows best. It can cloud your view of goals and motivation. It may want you to believe everything that it is saying. Even when your mind knows better, your heart tells you to follow your fears. Let's learn to stand up and speak your truth. What do you really want from your life, your
relationship
, your direction?

I do see many
couples
, but also enjoy providing a healing environment for individuals to explore and express problems within their relationships.
People can feel stuck only to repeat bad habits that keep them from goals and dreams. These patterns are usually what keep us stuck and frustrated. Change is possible and achievable! I join my clients on their journey to help them become encouraged and find ways to reconnect to themselves as well as others around them. A focus in my practice is helping clients to feel heard and understood as well as guiding them in making attainable goals that will enhance and enrich their quality of life. Working as a team, we will look at many aspects of the patterns in your life that may be harmful, ineffective, or simply unhelpful.

Above all, "Therapy must be useful". That means that in addition to overcoming issues related to depression, anxiety and troubled relationships, skills are developed and applied to life's challenges. These skills include increased self awareness, handling adversity and developing and applying the skills necessary to achieve a gratifying and fulfilling life. In addition to Individual,
Couples
, and Family sessions in the office, Video Therapy over the internet thru a HIPPA compliant platform which maintains confidentiality can be arranged.

Relationships are a dominant presence in our lives; we are meant to be relational. The relationships we remember from the past, experience in the present, and anticipate in the future are perhaps the most influential force in shaping who we are. I believe there are three types of relationships that therapy can foster health in - a person's
relationship
with himself or herself, a person's
relationship
with other people, and, for people of faith, a person's
relationship
with God. There is perhaps no better gift that could be received than a healthier
relationship
in these areas.

Struggling with infidelity, trust issues, internet addiction, & wondering whether to continue with your
relationship
? My unique approach to
couples counseling
can help you sort through all of the chaos.
You are a good person. You are authentic, open, honest, and vulnerable. However, there is someone in your life who takes advantage of your good nature and makes your life a living Hell. While you are open and honest, they respond with secrecy, lies, and often blame you for creating your own stress. I am here to help you sort through all of the chaos and create some peace in your life. Call me and we can discuss how I can help you create appropriate boundaries, and/or start the process of finding another human who will treat you in the same caring way that you treat others. I have evening hours (after 530pm) for people who work days.

Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
