I have honed my skills working with adults and children dealing with
trauma
, anxiety, depression, grief and life transitions.
Therapy is a unique experience aimed at helping clients understand their emotions as well as learning that our symptoms are telling us something. It is the collaborative relationship between therapist and client that allows each client to explore not only their symptoms but understand ones self, while obtaining valuable tools to deal with emotions, conflict, and interpersonal communication. In my office I offer a warm non-judgmental space for self exploration and growth.

We will use a variety of approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and
trauma
-focused techniques to achieve your goals.
How are you functioning in your life? In your relationships? Are you joyful, confident, optimistic? Or are you feeling stuck, sad, frustrated, or lonely? Relationships are the primary force in our lives; without healthy relationships our lives suffer. Because relationships are so important, the way we attach to others is within those relationships, and how we create healthy attachments is extremely important. What I work toward is healthier relationships for my clients; relationship with self as well as with others. In our work together it will be our relationship that provides a safe place from which to explore change.

During a time of instability, some sort of consistency helps create a small sense of normal. Establishing a routine is essential, especially during a time of a Pandemic, when our ground has shifted, habits altered or broken. During a time that we are required for social distancing and isolation, we are also forced to slow down. We are provided the choice to find ways to connect and look within, to learn, to adapt and grow. My name is Channie Amato and I have hand selected a team of excellent therapists with various specialties. We strive to create a therapeutic space of comfort and support and meeting the client at where they are at

My name is Katherine and I am a licensed therapist. I have a deep passion for this work as I too, have endured my own personal struggles related to
trauma
, anxiety and depression. Growing up, I had a strong will, often feeling that I needed to hold in my feelings and handle life on my own. After I endured various traumatic events in my life, I sought out therapy. Reaching out to a therapist was a terrifying first step for me. It was hard for me to imagine that I could trust a stranger to hold my pain. Being vulnerable was my greatest fear.

Life can be complicated and challenging, and there is no "how to" guide. You work so hard, juggling all the different parts of life, but don't feel fulfilled or satisfied. Everything feels like a struggle. You work so hard and it feels like you're barely holding on. What do we do when things happen that throw us off course.? What do we do when we get stuck in a cycle that we don't know how to change? I want you to know that it can get better. The fact that you're reading this right now means that you're ready to feel good. By building tools and exploring the barriers, you can create the life you want, the life you deserve!

PTSD
, eating disorders, low self-esteem and various relationship issues.
Are you experiencing distressing, hopeless thoughts and self destructive behaviors that are negatively effecting your self esteem and relationships? I integrate EMDR and talk therapy as I believe EMDR is the missing piece which integrates negative emotions, physical sensations or beliefs which remains unprocessed by the brain after a traumatic. event. Together, we can work on unlocking these blocks that may be preventing you from achieving your goals.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
