It’s difficult to begin therapy. But if you're in a lot of emotional pain, it can feel like life is running you; you've lost the driver's seat. Once you reach out for support, we begin. Together, we'll explore any distorted thinking patterns you may be having and develop your strengths so that you can regain a sense of agency and equanimity. We'll focus on your core values and how you can make changes to align with them. Your precious life is worth it! I look forward to talking to you.

You do not have to go through life challenges alone. People come to see me for a number of reasons. Maybe you are seeking help for anxiety or depression or maybe you are going through a difficult event, like the
death
of a loved one, a break-up, or health issues. Maybe you hope to have healthier and more satisfying relationships. Maybe you are haunted by experiences stemming from childhood or the more recent past. We all are seeking a better life, a pathway to some change, and a greater sense of peace or confidence. Therapy is a great place to work toward these goals.

As human beings we learn, develop meaning, and create a sense of purpose through each other and the relationships we form. In the same spirit I believe the therapeutic process is driven by the relationship formed between the client and the therapist. This is why my approach in therapy is guided by the question - "How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for their personal growth?" I strive to create an empathic, nonjudgmental atmosphere where you feel safe and empowered to work toward personal growth and creating lasting change; forming trust and leaning toward vulnerability.

I have had the privilege of working one on one with adolescents and adults navigating issues of
loss
,
grief
, depression, anxiety, LGBTQ, midlife changes, and differing communication styles.
Hi! If I have learned one thing in life it's that change is difficult, particularly without help. I offer the opportunity to work collaboratively through what's keeping you from living the life you always thought you would have. Therapy can help one let go of patterns and beliefs, often subconscious, that aren't working. And changing our assumptions about the world and improving our relationships can result in profoundly positive changes and a life worth embracing! I look forward to helping you realize those changes.

Life happens. Everything is running smoothly in our lives and then something occurs that throws us off balance: a relationship breakup, the
death
of a loved one, the
loss
of a job, divorce, or a trauma. Instead of a single event, it can also be the buildup of stress or the accumulation of various events that have occurred. Sometimes we just want to learn more about ourselves. It can even be a wound from our past from which we have difficulty healing. All of us experience obstacles in our lives that can become overwhelming.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
