Hi there, I'm Julia! For my approach as a therapist, it is of the highest importance for clients to feel seen, heard, understood, and respected. Research shows that the therapeutic
relationship
between therapist and client can determine therapy outcomes, so I greatly value the connection made between myself as a therapist and you as the client. I recognize the vulnerability and reaching out for help isn’t easy, so my approach could be described as non-judgmental, curious, warm, empowering, empathetic, and client-centered to facilitate a safe space.

Specialization and interest include:
Couples
, family therapy, teens, depression/anxiety, mood disorders, psychosis, childhood trauma, grief and loss, sleep health, nutrition/weight loss, exercise/physical fitness.
As human beings we learn, develop meaning, and create a sense of purpose through each other and the relationships we form. In the same spirit I believe the therapeutic process is driven by the
relationship
formed between the client and the therapist. This is why my approach in therapy is guided by the question - "How can I provide a
relationship
which this person may use for their personal growth?" I strive to create an empathic, nonjudgmental atmosphere where you feel safe and empowered to work toward personal growth and creating lasting change; forming trust and leaning toward vulnerability.

My passion and purpose is working with survivors of relational trauma. This can include the effects of living with betrayal, infidelity, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and addiction. It can also include (or be worsened by) systemic traumas for members of marginalized groups. These kinds of relational wounds require relational healing. In therapy, the
relationship
between therapist and client provides the environment for restoration and growth, so it's important that you feel safe and comfortable working with me.

In my practice, I believe we have two types of relationships: the
relationship
we have with ourselves, and the relationships we have with others. When you have been hurt by others, it may become more challenging to love yourself. You begin to think, “ What did I do wrong?”, or “They didn’t want me, so I’m not worth loving”.

My focus is on easing your stress, worries, and challenges that you are facing. Together we will work on finding better ways to communicate at home and at work. I am offering tele-therapy through video and/or phone to all who want to be seen.I enjoy working with
couples
and individuals. When dealing with negative thoughts, I work on finding more coping thoughts, while using different approaches, such as CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy), and family systems. With
couples
I often use EFT (emotional focus therapy). My therapy style is nurturing and empowering. Your happiness is my first priority!

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
