Marriage, divorce, co- parenting , career pivots, loss and reclaiming my joy.
You are a thoughtful, BIPOC/Multicultural creative in a relationship crisis. Constant arguments, power struggles, and crossed boundaries, have become the norm. Whether it's your partner, kid, parent , or sibling, you feel on the brink of letting it all go. You want to give it one more chance, but are tired of bending and twisting to fit everyone else's needs. You want a solution, but no longer at the expense of your own power, freedom or joy. I get in the weeds with you. I help you to mourn what is gone and build something better or let go with kindness and dignity. Clients grow to trust, take risks, and embody love once again.

(This is also the focus of my group parenting classes.
When an individual or a couple comes to me for help, I know that life has gotten tough! I carefully ask myself "what is really needed here? What needs to change? It takes courage and commitment to work on emotional and life problems and I respect this courage. I help people suffering from depression, anxiety, relationship problems, grief, addiction, and life transitions. I help clients understand themselves and their relationships better, then turn this insight into "real life" changes in how they deal with others and how they feel about themselves, so that their lives are less painful and more fulfilling, effective and satisfying!

I specialize in parenting , Single Moms By Choice and fertility.
Too often, we feel we are surviving rather than thriving. Do you feel stuck in grief or loss, or that your anxiety is running the show? Are your relationships painful or not satisfying?Perhaps you are worried about the way you feel- powerless, lonely, sad or overwhelmed. Parenting is hard! Maybe you are a new parent and it isn't what you expected, or even hoped for. Nobody tells you about the postpartum experience -that internal voice in your head that is constantly critiquing the new role of motherhood you're taking on, mourning the version of yourself you once were. Not to mention the pain that comes with a birth plan gone wrong.

I also work with parents of children with special needs who face a unique and challenging parenting experience where self-care is so often neglected.
When we live a life of reflection, we open ourselves to the rich depths of life's possibilities. We move away from the needless suffering of unresolved pain. I help my clients examine the intricacies of their minds and relationships in a warm, supportive, nonjudgmental environment. I help them make sense of their lives and their histories to understand how they impact their current challenges. Together we build a refuge where strengths are discovered and life becomes more joyful. My training is psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, however, my style always depends on the needs of my clients and the relationship we create.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
