If you or a loved one is struggling, then it is time for a new journey. I 'grew up' as an adolescent in therapy and know the powers it has to transform your life. As a therapist, I often hear from those who have tried therapy before, but not had the powerful experience they hoped for. My practice involves simple principles and ideas, which I discovered from studying philosophy, and it can be learned by anyone--from child to adult. My task is to help you understand yourself and how you really want to live your life, so that you can become more wise.

What does "balance" and "safety" look like, feel like, and mean to you? I aim to provide a safe, healing space for clients, ensuring I take into account what "safe" and "balance" means to each individual in this current time and how that aligns with current needs, life events, and experiences. I predominantly work with the adolescent & young adult populations, addressing anxiety, relationship with food and body, personality traits/disorders, relationships, and life transitions. I am also passionate about exploring diet culture and the role of wellness culture in our lives.

Life brings various challenges that can lead to stress, depression, anxiety, or trauma. These experiences can then lead to feeling overwhelmed, stuck, and less of oneself as well as other issues such as relationship difficulties. While it can be difficult to confront these issues, I believe that people are capable of tremendous resiliency that will allow them to grow and overcome in the midst of challenges. I seek to create a safe space for each client where they can freely explore their stories and learn new ways to cope. I value and deeply respect who my clients are and the wisdom and strengths they already have within.

Kids in our communities today are stressed. Major social issues from racial and environmental injustice to economic precarity cast a daily shadow over their lives. The social dislocation and isolation of the pandemic has made a difficult situation worse. This situation has led to an epidemic of anxiety and depression among young people. More subtly it has also led to feelings of fragility and powerlessness even among kids who are “doing well”. Parents, themselves stressed out, overworked, and far from their families of origin want to help but don’t know how.

First sentence: Address the client directly Are you finding that you’re having difficulties making it through the day because of exhaustion, low mood, worry, or you’re overly alter and hypervigilant? Have you experienced anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use disorders, or low self-esteem? I want you to know that you are not alone. You deserve a chance for a change. I don’t mean change that involves quitting your job, moving to a remote island, and living off the grid. The change I’m talking about is internal. I believe one of the bravest acts in life is to turn inward and start to discover yourself and understand your story.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
