It is helpful for all of us to develop the skills that enable us to step back from emotion-laden life events (both good and bad) in order to gain perspective and insight. This allows us to interact optimally with those in our lives who can significantly impact our well-being. Therapy provides a safe, nonjudgmental environment that promotes self-exploration and the development of insight into our own behaviors as well as the behaviors of others. Identifying the potential "whys" behind our actions and reactions can be empowering in the context of personal change and development.

I am a Marriage & Family Therapist practicing since 1995. My specialty is Personal Growth for all life stages & all the issues surrounding Midlife & beyond including, but not limited to, sense of loss, changes in relationships, shifts in values and fear of aging. These mid-life stages are often accompanied by varying degrees of low self-esteem, loneliness, increased stress, anger, anxiety & depression. Is it possible to come home to ourselves at these stages to an inner space, a true refuge, in which we welcome change & whatever is occurring rather than struggle to change it?

My ideal client is someone who identifies that there is a need for things to change in his/her/their life and is looking for a clinician to help them navigate life stressors and build resilience along the way. A client may have problems that are rooted in childhood, learned survival techniques that are now hurting rather than helping, or new stressors that are making it difficult to function. The client is struggling and seeks understanding, while also motivated to change things for the better, as he/she/they seeks to live a happier, fulfilling life, with self-love and compassion. He/she/they knows “there has to be a better way”.

I’m not taking clients at this time: however, I’m on LiveHealth and Talkspace platform seeking clients on these platforms. Therapy can be viewed as a place where one begins the journey to self-discovery. Providing thoughtful guidance and assistance to individuals in order to develop the lives they desire. In the work that I do, I hold value in providing a safe environment while embracing personal and cultural values of the individual. I have worked with a wide range of issues: trauma, depression, anxiety, challenging behavior, and life changing moments: to name a few.

I have been practicing for 38 years in this field and I still enjoy going to work every day. I believe it is very important in my work that I help clients find their own answers to issues that are important to them. In my practice, I work with couple/marital issues, individuals, teenagers, and families. When needed, I work closely with a local psychiatrist both for medication assessment and case consultation. I also specialize in substance abuse, mood disorders including bipolar, depression, anxiety, and grief. Everyone needs a safe and nonjudgmental place where they feel comfortable sharing their unique life story. Many times we stay in negative situations, because of our past, or we are afraid of taking a risk into the unknown. This is due to creating thoughts that prevent us from living the life we want. Being able to identify our thoughts can lead us to make better choices, feeling more empower leading to self-esteem development and improvement. I can be a tool to help you identify your thoughts as well as your emotions in order to make positive life decisions in a safe and confidential environment.

Life dissatisfaction may be a result of one or a serious of events that can interfere with the way we feel and how we interact with others. Such dissatisfaction may lead to self-restricting behaviors in our attempt to relieve our depression, abandonment, anger, guilt, shame, grief, loss, trauma, and anxiety. What we come to know as self-restricting behaviors are a serious of coping mechanisms that we develop over time in our unconscious attempt to protect and or relieve pain and suffering.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
