My work is grounded in the modalities of Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Buddhist Psychology and Mindfulness, and Depth Psychology.
We all deserve to feel seen, accepted, cared for, and empowered to live our best lives. It can be profoundly helpful to have an ally in the journey of being human. My work as a holistic therapist is to support clients in their growth as individuals and in relationships. Together we uncover what is most present and in need of care and attention. Anxiety and depression may be seen as invitations for deep change and healing. Struggles in relationships can be doorways to greater intimacy.

I work with an integrative approach, combining evidence-based therapies such as mindfulness, Internal Family Systems, and a somatic focus on trauma and recovery.
So glad that you are here. Whether you are struggling with something that has recently arisen, or are ready to dive into healing the past, I am here to support you in your journey. I am a Somatic based psychotherapist who works to integrate trauma through safely accessing the body and mind. LGBTQIA affirmative and diversity oriented, I aim to address underlying systems of power within and surrounding each of us. In doing so, I work in a way that supports and nurtures whatever shows up.

I trust your capacity for moving toward healing, change and growth. My holistic training in applying mindfulness to trauma and anxiety can allow you to experience a new relationship with all the parts of yourself and with others, which helps you feel more at ease. As a somatic psychotherapist, I use a mind-body approach to help you compassionately discover unconscious patterns in your nervous system, body, and mind that keep you from living your life as you wish. Somatic-based therapy has you deeply listen to all parts of yourself, which allows access and support to places in you that talk therapy does not reach.

I specialize in mindfulness based psychotherapy, as well as somatic (body-based awareness) psychotherapy and Gestalt therapy.
As I see it, the primary role of a counselor is to serve as a mirror to help reveal what the client hasn't yet been able to see-especially those patterns of relating to self, others, and the environment that might be causing suffering. At the same time, the counselor is there to reflect, affirm, and strengthen the client's unique gifts and talents. One of the biggest impediments to healing, growth, and creativity is shame. To help clients move through this debilitating emotion, I use a combination of mindfulness, body awareness, and other healing modalities.

The focus is on the creative process as a tool for transformation and manifestation, rather than on the quality of the product.

My practice comes forth from a personal commitment to mindfulness and awareness and living each moment in truth and compassion.
Life is difficult, laden with pain and suffering. And sometimes it seems to come to a climax, bringing us to a point of questioning so much about what we used to hold so dear and precious. These moments can seem overwhelming, confusing, and, strangely, may also be an opportunity to explore what comes next, with openness and mindfulness. I come with 30+ years of experience providing compassionate skill in helping individuals and couples deal with issues of being alive on this planet, helping in the process of creating ones life in ways that are consistent with ones dreams and ideals

I am a strength-based psychotherapist committed to the unique process of each client and each therapeutic moment. I work with a balanced approach between a solution-focused, positive psychology and the deeper work of existential, psychodynamic or mindfulness-based interventions. I specialize in life and developmental transitions where symptoms such as anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, or triggered trauma increase in intensity and frequency and threaten that which we cherish. But I view the nagging presence and awareness of our problems as proof that we are ready and capable of dealing with them.

I use a holistic approach, drawing from depth psychology, parts work, somatic awareness, mindfulness, and attachment theory.
Maybe you’ve been on a healing journey but still feel stuck in some areas. Maybe you wrestle with inner conflict between your tender heart, your rational mind, and your intuitive soul. Maybe you distract from feeling uncomfortable emotions, which doesn’t make them go away. I work with the balance of the mind, the heart, the spirit. Let’s get insight into where and why you’re stuck, while also cultivating self-compassion. Let’s talk it out rationally while also making space for the “mystery” of it all. Let’s acknowledge the ways you’ve suffered, while also finding a path toward empowered, intentional, joyful living.

Grief is messy. One minute you feel numb; the next minute you are sobbing. Or maybe you feel relieved and then feel guilty for feeling relieved. You expect yourself to be sad but surprise yourself by feeling angry and then scared. It’s a wild ride. It’s unpredictable and unwieldy. It’s as unique as the relationship (or situation) that launched it. Most of us don’t “get over” our losses, but we can integrate them into our lives in a meaningful way that allows us to move forward with a sense of peace.

I am honored to work with individuals; including teens, young adults, children and families, providing a space to understand their inner world. It is in therapy that we invite all parts of the self into the light, and a new perspective emerges. I believe we are all continually moving toward healing. Clients often share that I have a warm, accepting and supportive approach that welcomes and validates all aspects of the inner landscape.

All walks of life experience challenges, hardships, and discomfort. While it is human nature to want to avoid the discomfort, fix the pain, and escape the hardships, our attempts to do so often lead to more suffering and intensify our sense of fear and helplessness. Yet when we feel connected with our true selves, I believe we all have the power to make positive changes in our lives. With compassion and understanding, I strive to meet my clients where they are along life’s journey, providing tools and resources to help navigate the best path forward.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
