Empowering clients to recognize that pursuing therapy is a strength that reveals their courage to heal is my initial goal. I do this by creating a safe, accepting and supportive environment where I can help clients explore thoughts, feelings and behaviors that will lead to personal growth. Our therapeutic bond becomes an opportunity for clients to increase self-awareness and build on individual strengths that will lead to positive changes. I love what I do and I believe that comes across with my clients. My therapy style reflects my personality -- down to earth, warm, compassionate, humorous and at times direct.

parent
, this can be a confusing or challenging role. It may be difficult to connect with your child. The same

I enjoy working with ages 12 and up, especially those experiencing conflicts in their personal, school and professional life. Many experience complexities and challenges that are hard to resolve. "Connection" is the most important aspect in developing a natural, trusting and collaborative working relationship. Connection promotes a healthy therapeutic alliance where goals can be achieved and reflected upon. A therapeutic relationship involves weaving compassion and understanding while developing the ability to effectively communicate in a safe, nurturing environment.

Every child is unique. To help children overcome social, emotional, behavioral, developmental, and/or academic challenges, we can't be preoccupied with simply signing labels. Rather, we need to identify a child's individual strengths as well as their weaknesses in order to design effective strategies that suit their needs. We work closely with parents, schools, and other professionals to establish a comprehensive picture of the whole child. It's from this highly individualized approach along with the collaboration with those that know the child/teen well, that we are able to create the most significant and dramatic change!

I work with clients to help them understand their past experiences and current situation in order to move forward. I am warm, compassionate, collaborative and interactive in my approach.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
