I am grateful that I am able to guide and act as a witness for individuals,
couples
and families through their healing journeys.
Why do we feel persistent guilt, shame, sadness, anxiousness, anger or hopelessness? Why do we find ourselves in situations and relationships that are hurtful and unsatisfying? Why do we repeat unhealthy behaviors? Why can't we find the motivation to become who we know we are capable to be? Why are we addicted? Often it is because we are relying on maladaptive coping skills and defense mechanisms to navigate challenging or even traumatic experiences. I whole-heartedly believe in the ability and resiliency of the human spirit and I offer a safe and therapeutic environment in which to process, learn, grow and develop healthier skills.

I enjoy working with individuals,
couples
, families, and am very effective with adolescents and people working in the stressful world of business or hi tech, as well as active military service members and veterans.
Choosing a therapist can be challenging and confusing and one might ask, what does therapy involve? From my experience Therapy involves developing a very special
relationship
between a professionally licensed practitioner called a therapist and one or more people seeking to collaboratively define and achieve constructive change. Therapy on my behalf will involve empathy, genuineness, and mindful acceptance while we collaboratively establish therapeutic changes / goals you feel are both desired and are ready to achieve.

couples
on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, stress management, self-esteem, transitions, relationships, communication and parenting.
Empowering clients to recognize that pursuing therapy is a strength that reveals their courage to heal is my initial goal. I do this by creating a safe, accepting and supportive environment where I can help clients explore thoughts, feelings and behaviors that will lead to personal growth. Our therapeutic bond becomes an opportunity for clients to increase self-awareness and build on individual strengths that will lead to positive changes. I love what I do and I believe that comes across with my clients. My therapy style reflects my personality -- down to earth, warm, compassionate, humorous and at times direct.

I work with many different types of people bringing to each
relationship
the caring and attention needed to make psychotherapy useful, creative and most importantly help to provide a growth producing experience.
Psychotherapy is a process of exploration, discovery and growth. I work with patients who want to learn about themselves in a safe and caring environment. Whether you are in crisis, have overwhelming stress, have family of origin issues, depression/anxiety or just need support for the many issues people face today; call my office to see how I might be of help and support to you. I work from a relational and contemporary psychodynamic model of therapy, meeting the needs of each person as an individual. I use modalties such as insight/relationally oriented psychotherapy, and psychoanalysis.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
