I work with individuals as well as couples, providing a safe space for an exploration of inner distress. Through an eclectic mix of theories, I have watched my clients move from depression, anxiety, addiction and other difficult patterns toward a newfound sense of peace and harmony. This doesn’t come without its own brand of sacrifice, it takes a lot of self-honesty, self-acceptance and courage.

A lot of people come to me when life feels heavier than it should, anxiety that won’t let up, relationships stuck in the same patterns, or feeling disconnected from yourself even when things look “fine” on the outside. My job is to help you understand what’s really going on, see it more clearly, and figure out what will actually make a difference. I work best with people who are curious about themselves, even if they’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or burned out. You don’t have to have it all figured out before you start, just a willingness to show up and see what we can do together.

You’re a gay man in mid-life. You’ve done the work. You’ve built a life with depth, identity, and probably a few scars. You’ve found strength in community—maybe in leather, chosen family, or relationships that don’t fit the mainstream mold. And yet… certain patterns still show up. Emotional walls. Disconnection. That old feeling like something’s missing—or still running the show. Daddy Issues Therapy is built for you. We take your lived experience seriously and use evidence-based tools to help you heal, grow, and lead with emotional clarity—on your own terms.

I help parents of young children recover from crippling worry and insomnia. The poet Hafez puts it well: "Fear is the cheapest room in the house. I would like to see you in better living conditions." The cycles of rumination, avoidance, and sleepless nights can make you believe that you will never feel like yourself again. You're looking into therapy because you want to feel better and reconnect to the most important relationships and activities in your life.

I help men and couples get unstuck in their relationships. As a man you may be struggling to feel and communicate your emotions, while simultaneously living with a great deal of stress. You may avoid conflict in order to not rock the boat. Self-doubt and an inner critic keep you feeling like you don't know where you're going (personally and professionally) and like you're never enough, leading to burnout. You want to feel confident, connected, have clear purpose, and to relish that thing they call joy. If you're a couple, we will work towards similar feelings of secure functioning. I want you two to feel safe, light, and powerful.

My approach to working with you in therapy would encompass all registers of your experience, including non-verbal communication. In my way of working, developing an understanding of where and how feelings are actually felt is as important as understanding cognitive distortions and negative thought patterns. I do maintain a few open time slots in my practice on a sliding scale basis, which are intended for those in marginalized communities. Please apply if you may be eligible.

I work with adults of all ages, couples and adolescents. In these increased stressful times I offer help, care and support in maneuvering day to day to rise above the turbulence. Rising above in hopes of meeting your aspirations with work, with money, and relationships. If your focus is to decrease worry, fear and that sense of doom, we can work together to increase certainty of the moment which will lead to security for tomorrow. More trust, trust for yourself, trust for people and the environment. Less fear and doubt.

I know that living with the effects of trauma, depression, anxiety and grief can feel hopeless and exhausting. I also know that beginning psychotherapy can feel scary. I hope to provide you with a space that feels warm, non-judgmental and hopeful. More importantly, I hope that my training and skill set can provide you with relief from what you have been living through.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
