Hi there! I'm Lacy. I provide therapy for cycle-breakers. Who is a cycle breaker, you ask? A cycle-breaker refers to anyone consciously choosing to change harmful patterns in themselves and their relationships. Common patterns I address in my practice include fostering independence, processing
grief
, increasing self-esteem and self-compassion, and healing from abusive behavior. If you know something needs to change for the better in yourself and your relationships but aren’t sure how to start, let’s talk.

I like helping people find contentment and happiness in their lives. I believe it is important to understand one's self and one's personal values and to make choices that are positive and life-affirming. I have had extensive experience working with people having experienced trauma and
loss
, relationship problems, and who have substance abuse problems. Creative people are also one of my specializations. My training is primarily psycho-dynamic along with cognitive-behavioral orientation. I believe mindfulness, spirituality and forgiveness are ways of helping alter patterns of behavior that can keep us stuck in our lives.

Therapy is a delicate art and a science. Finding the right therapist is important. The connection by an understanding, intuitive professional, someone with wisdom and effectiveness, who also respects the time and the cost of your investment is valuable. I use an attachment-focused orientation, and tools from EMDR, Ego State Theory, CBT, 12-step recovery model, and other modalities. I have enjoyed a rich 25-year career as a trauma informed specialist. I have supervised and directed programs in public and non-profit sectors. Adoption is my specialty, as well as work with teens, young adults and families.

You’re pretty resilient but life has thrown you a curve ball. Maybe you’ve recently experienced a major transition (marriage/divorce, birth/
death
, aging, job
loss
/gain) or; your identity disrupts essential relationships (sexual orientation, religious affiliation, loving outside your race/ethnicity). Maybe a societal ill is beyond your control (racism, sexism, implicit bias, global pandemic). Your spouse/partner, boss, family or a friend has noticed it too but; you can't seem to talk to them about what's happening or you don't feel understood by them when you do. All you want is to feel better and tolerate life's ups and downs.

The most successful component of therapy is the relationship that you and your therapist will build. And building this relationship in a safe non - judgmental environmental is crucial. I will provide this environment for you, to allow you the freedom to express yourself, thus enhancing your personal growth. I greatly enjoy working with individuals from all walks of life. This includes students, professionals, retirees, parents, unemployed etc. I have also worked closely with undergraduate- and graduate students in both the helping professions as well as the sciences. Let's meet and see if we can work together.

I am experienced in EMDR, trauma,
grief
/
loss
, anxiety, depression, youth and narcissistic abuse.
I specialize in relationship issues pertaining to Infidelity; Youth (most often impacted by familial stressors) and Communication, which correlates and can manifest as obsessive thoughts, anxiety, depression and related addictions. Infidelity is a symptom of underlying issues. Trained in EMDR to identify and manage trauma, I became a therapist due to personal experience in dealing with affairs. I understand the emotional roller coaster infidelity creates. Emotional education and processing is important to understanding why you are experiencing the emotions you are dealing with.

Parenting children and teens in 2023 presents myriad uniquely frustrating challenges: setting appropriate boundaries for social media, peer bullying, the accessibility of illicit substances, unhealthy romantic relationships, academic stress, and the lasting and unknowable impacts of the pandemic quarantine. Finding compassionate mental healthcare support for your children and teens should not have to feel like an equally daunting task. As parents, you can do your best to be a patient listener and encourage healthy habits, but sometimes the best gift you can give your child is to seek out professional help.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
