I also have a special interest in women's issues such as fertility difficulties, perinatal and postpartum mental health and adjusting to new roles in parenthood and relationships.
In my therapy practice, I nurture a trusting relationship; one in which clients can feel safe to explore their thoughts and feelings. I work collaboratively and am interactive in my approach to therapy. I believe it is the relationship between a client and therapist that is paramount in creating lasting change and personal healing. Developing trust, understanding and authenticity is essential before any meaningful healing can take place. I work with my patients to help them achieve an awareness of themselves and their personal histories in order to broaden and deepen their sense of self-efficacy and self-esteem.

So many things have happened: Those chronic terrible arguments with your parents that leave you feeling awful, depleted, disconnected. Feeling like you endlessly date but can’t find the right “person” or feeling like the person you’re with isn’t the right fit but not seeing a way out. Something just doesn't feel right anymore. You know its time to finally work through your past, stand up for yourself in your relationships, and unleash your inner bad-ass self. I’m a therapist who helps people become the hero of their own story.

Let's face its: being human is tough, and so is life in the digital age. Even the best of us can end up feeling isolated, alone, and as if no one understands us. We all have moments of desperation and fear, can feel lost and stuck, and as if all avenues have been exhausted. We may grapple with thoughts of "I'm not good enough", and when we see others lives portrayed on Social Media, we cannot help but compare our own lives to theirs. However, we don't always see the whole picture, and relationships are unfortunately not as easy as a swipe on an app.

Being a new mom is not all about instagram posts and yoga classes. Sometimes it can be very lonely, extremely emotionally draining, and psychologically challenging. Asking for help can be difficult, even scary sometimes, especially when you are comparing yourself to the perfection that you perceive of your surroundings. It takes courage to take the first step to start to feel like yourself again. Therapy could be that step. Emotions are involuntary, we can’t help what we feel, that is why we need to talk and be heard. You're not alone.

How healthy and joyful are your relationships? How strong do you feel verbalizing your needs to your loved ones? I work with people who want to improve their relationships and enhance communication with family (parents, children), children of divorcing parents, friends, sexuality, romantic/intimate partners. I treat various relationships, trauma, intimacy and sexuality issues, and body positivity. Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
