I integrate an intersectional, multicultural feminist approach with
family
systems therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, mindful self-compassion, brainspotting, somatic embodiment, and internal
family
systems.
You deserve an affirming space for all of your parts to be embraced. I work with survivors of acute and complex trauma who tend to be perfectionists and struggle with self-criticalness. I specifically specialize in working with marginalized populations, with a majority of my clients being women, LGBTQ+, and trans/non-binary. Many of my clients internalize the stigma and shame conditioned by our society's oppressive norms and politics. I help my clients find self-compassion, embrace their authenticity, and process their trauma from an intersectional, warm approach that always emphasizes fostering safety rather than "fixing."

Are you locked in patterns of drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, insomnia, infidelity, mood or thought disorders? As an empathic therapist, I utilize EMDR within a
family
systems approach. My life's work is helping people uncover and target problematic patterns. Once patterns are uncovered, we take simple steps toward change. If you struggle with ADHD, Asperger's or learning differences, I would like to help you construct the right niche, where you can be successful and happy, feeling supported and understood. Changes made in therapy are rewarding. I want to be part of your change process.

I am flexible in my approach as each person may benefit from a different style. However, I'm particularly interested in how the past plays a part in our current day experiences, and how we may free ourselves of unwanted (internal or external) burdens when we can understand their origin. As a registered art therapist, I will at times integrate the use of art therapy to support clients in building a more comprehensive understanding of their needs and goals. I have found that creative expression in conjunction with talk therapy, can help uncover the more complicated and subtle pieces, that language alone may not fully capture.

I work with both individuals and couples and consider all the biological, chemical and
family
dynamics that effect or are related to the problem at hand.
My ideal client is a person who is longing to find purpose and meaning in their life and who look beyond mere symptom removal to a sense of who they are, what information the symptom may offer them, and how to live a more fulfilling life, be it as an individual, couple or member of a
family
. In short, a person who is interested in exploring the depths of their psyche and soul and is not just looking for advice or a quick fix; someone who understands that there is profound meaning in their suffering.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
