I have expertise in Borderline Personality Disorder, depression , and LGBTQIA2S+ issues.
Have you ever wondered why you struggle with certain things while others seem to face these challenges head-on? I believe that while our biology may explain how we exist in the world, it is our social environment that shapes how we perceive and engage with the world around us. I hope to work with you so we can understand how these two forces have come together to create patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving, and how we can use this knowledge to recover from the past and create a life that feels worth living. Together, we can process the past, live in the present, and lay the foundation for a healthy future.

Some areas of specialty include depression , anxiety, weight, pain, insomnia (CBT-I), stress management, women's health issues, and bariatric pre-surgical evaluations.
As we all continue to navigate life's transitions and changes, we eventually find ourselves needing guidance and support along the way. Whether you or someone you know is currently thriving or struggling in life, deciding to seek therapy can often be a helpful, rewarding, and life-changing experience. Finding and choosing a therapist, however, could be challenging and overwhelming. Not only must practical matters be considered, such as fees and scheduling, so must the therapist's style, approach, and qualifications. In other words, it has to be a "good fit" and it must "feel right."

I will also treat other issues you wish to address, including anxiety and depression .
Are you tired of spending time obsessing, counting calories, weighing yourself, compulsively exercising, or comparing yourself to others? Do you find yourself allowing your body or the food you consume to define your self-worth? In a toxic media culture, it can be extremely difficult to overcome obsessive thoughts about food and body on your own. That's why I'm here, to help you replace the unwanted, judgmental internal voice with self-compassion and empowerment. I believe you have the ability to fully recover in order to live a freer life and am here to support you through the process.

I specialize in helping to manage and overcome self-defeating behaviors, relationship problems, depression , and anxiety.
Whether life is going well or you are struggling to feel well, therapy could be a helpful and powerful tool in moving forward. Finding the right therapist, however, could be overwhelming. With investments of energy, time, and money, it is important to select a therapist with whom you feel comfortable—someone that "gets" you and in whom you have trust and confidence. I enjoy helping adults understand their barriers and strengths to help them meet their goals in the various aspects of their lives, such as relationships, work, school, and health.

I also work with men and women in their 30s and 40s who may be wondering what's next for them in life, with adults who have ADHD and other "neuroatypical" conditions, and with people experiencing depression and/or anxiety.
Sometimes it helps just to talk to someone. Someone who can listen with empathy and without judgment. Someone who can see patterns you may not have been aware of, who can help you talk back to that negative voice in your head, and who can help you renew your hopes for yourself and the future. Someone like me. To all of you I say, Come, let's talk about it, and together we'll find a way through this messy business of life. You are not alone.

I know both personally and professionally the difficulties of depression , anxiety, poor self-esteem, trauma and relational issues.
"(Humans) will do anything, no matter how absurd, to avoid facing (their) own soul(s)." - Carl Jung. I am looking to work with people who are ready to do this work. I want you to have a meaningful life, as YOU define it. If you don't know what you want, I hope our work together will help you find that. If you know what you want but keep running into the same obstacles, I hope to help you understand what those obstacles mean and show you how to work with them more effectively.

I have helped countless clients work through relationship issues, anxiety, depression , life transitions, career choices/changes, marital discord, and stagnation.
As humans, we are all blessed with a host of undesirable experiences: family dysfunction, trauma, relationship issues, and career struggles to name a few—often resulting in anxiety and depression , Sometimes it feels like we’re being pulled in all directions to help others and we forget to take care of ourselves. This further undermines our relationships, career goals, and takes a major toll on our mental and physical well-being. In therapy, I will help you identify and prioritize personal and professional aspirations and help you navigate the roadblocks that prevent you from achieving them.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Pepperdine University and treat children, teenagers, and adults struggling with depression , anxiety, emotional and behavioral disorders, and trauma.
I became a psychotherapist because everyone needs “that person” in their life who will always believe in them, support them, and not judge them based on their past. As we all continue to navigate life’s transitions and changes, there are points where we find ourselves needing extra guidance and support. Whether you are currently thriving or struggling in life, deciding to seek therapy can be a challenging, rewarding, and life-changing experience. As a therapist, I strive to be “that person” by providing a non-judgmental, warm, and compassionate environment that fosters growth.

Through the use of several traditional and modern modalities, I work with teens, young adults, adults, and couples, struggling with issues like stress, anxiety, depression , communication, parenting, grief, trauma, and life transitions.
Has the pandemic resulted in an increase in stress, headache, and migraine frequency? Through the use of mindfulness techniques, we can work together to reduce stress and tension. Having tools to help cope with difficult emotions brought on by change and uncertainty can have a powerful impact on your mental and physical health. I believe that human beings possess an innate ability to move toward happiness and health, but sometimes adversity and challenging life experiences can get in the way of living productive and meaningful lives.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
