Hi! I’m Lindsay and I’m the founder of LIFT Therapy, a licensed therapist, coach, a martial artist, wife, and parent. I help individuals with their most intimate relationships- with partners, family members and close friends. I also support those in tricky dynamics with narcissistic, exploitive and manipulative personalities. In my experience working with deeply traumatized and emotionally disturbed adults and children, I found my passion for addressing generational trauma by helping adults heal early childhood trauma and by teaching a new generation of parents how to raise children using an attachment-based lens.

You look put together, present yourself well, but are privately struggling. Your problems may not be immediately apparent to others, but internally you have a hard time with accepting yourself, being present in your life, and with finding joy. You work hard and are constantly juggling an array of tasks, but your relationships are sluggish and you feel overwhelmed and disconnected. You may be struggling with parenting and wonder why your intimate relationships, or the lack thereof, are so damn hard. You do not feel content and question whether you're good enough to do life well.

So here you are, searching for a therapist. Maybe you have been thinking about starting this process for a while or maybe today is the day you decide to finally take the leap. Many people come to therapy for the first time or even after several other times because old traumas are resurfacing, daily life isn’t as enjoyable as before, or relationships are not as fulfilling and meaningful as they used to be. Wherever you are in your journey, I want you to know that I recognize that taking that first step is NOT easy. It’s funny how often we can love and support others, but how difficult it can be to actually do the same for ourselves.

Maybe you need a brain organizer, or a reality checker, or a reaction approver, or a crisis stabilizer, or an existential dread container. Maybe you need a partner and witness as you confront difficult experiences or mourn losses. Maybe you feel stuck and don't know why. Or you are struggling with the disruption and distress of anxiety or depression. Or feel ready to dive into personal exploration and growth. Whatever the reason you might be seeking therapy, you deserve to be heard and supported.

As an individual, you have a great capacity for creativity, decision-making, and imagination. However, past experiences may have caused emotional pain and hindered your ability to connect with others, find peace in everyday life, and move forward. These experiences still affect your present challenges, but you are motivated to address and heal your wounds. By changing the way you view your life's story, you hope to feel safe, heard, and increase your self-esteem and confidence.

My approach to therapy is one of active, yet gentle collaboration between therapist and client. My practice as a psychotherapist is to help cut through outdated narratives that often prevent us from creating the changes to live a satisfying and enriching life. I draw from my experiences working with individuals, couples, families and kids at a community mental health center, as well as at an elementary school. Additionally, I have training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and am a Prepare/Enright Premarital and Marriage Assessment Facilitator.

Do you find yourself weighed down with everyday decisions? Are you emotionally exhausted from worrying about relationships, work, and the world around you? Do you experience physical symptoms of anxiety that limit your ability to enjoy social experiences, pursue hobbies, a dream job, or dating? Living with patterns of anxiety can drain us of our freedoms by limiting our perceptions of ourselves and our abilities. The challenges we face in life can feel overwhelming, leading us to lose trust in ourselves and others. If you are lacking energy, feeling hopeless, and engaging in negative thinking patterns, don't give up!

Please note I am only paneled with Cigna for insurance- My name may be coming up on other insurance panels but this is not accurate and should be changed soon! I do provide out of network superbills for reimbursement for all others though! My clients want to learn how to understand their brains, the brains of the people they love, and how what's going on inside them can affect the way they feel and behave. I use creative, engaging approaches to help clients learn and grow! While a lot of my work is with parents and kids, I also work with non-parent adults too so feel free to reach out for a consultation to see if I'm the right fit!

My ideal client would be a woman who lives in the San Fernando Valley that is going through a major transition, like a divorce, career issues or recent losses. I have always been interested in women’s issues. I have done some exploration internationally regarding these issues. I find it fascinating to share with other cultures the different sociocultural influences that make us who we are.

Relationships can be tough. Do the fights make you think maybe this relationship won't work? Why are small things turning into big arguments that are essentially about standing on principle? You trust each other, so why is so hard to be vulnerable and discuss difficult feelings? When you have been together for a long time and your relationship matures it's totally normal to have some feelings of disconnection. But here's the good news, we can work on it. Together we can work toward reinvigorating your connection, improve communication and getting back to where you want to be; growing and experiencing life together.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
