Do you like working with me? Research shows that successful therapy depends on a positive relationship between therapist and client. I structure our work together so you will know within a few sessions if we are a good fit. My goal is to help individual adults, teenagers, and parents of teenagers understand enough about themselves so they can make healthy and sustained changes. I have helped clients save their own lives, manage anger, quit drugs and alcohol, improve self-esteem, build and/or rebuild relationships, improve work/academics, reduce anxiety/depression, and manage chronic illness.

We will look at how you got to a place of emotional pain and find healing in a way that gives you an understanding not only for the past and how it leads to your current circumstances, but also produces excitement at the prospect of what is coming next.
Frustrated by your relationships or feeling like you live life on everyone else's terms but your own? I am a warm, interactive partner in solution-focused conversation cradled with a sense of deep optimism which comes from both my professional training and from being a fellow traveler in negotiating life's challenges. I quickly assess what my clients needs are and provide concrete understanding, tools, skills, and solutions for their circumstances. I help you build inner resilience and self-esteem in the same way you boost your immune system when you feel worn down.

I have worked with those who are challenged by Depression, Anxiety Disorders, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, Dual Diagnosis (mental health issues and substance abuse), Chronic Pain Disorders, Grief Issues, and Relationship Issues.
Hello. My name is Susan Lambrose and I am an LMFT and have been practicing in California for the past 14 years. I believe that one of the most important aspects of therapy is to create a safe space for clients to explore and express the challenges they are facing in their lives and the things they would most like to change. A good client/therapist relationship is key in this journey that will lead to inner clarity and the establishment and accomplishment of your own personal goals.

Hello there! I'm Elle. I became a therapist because I wanted to become the therapist I never had, someone who won't just sit and listen but will provide effective tools and understanding to improve harmful thinking patterns and behaviors. I've always been passionate about seeing people overcome challenges and embrace both the good and imperfect parts that make them unique. I'm excited and motivated to help you overcome your challenges as I have with my own mental and health difficulties. I embrace who I am: a recovering anxious person, vulnerable, and learning from my mistakes.

Often a person will seek out counseling when personal attempts to solve a problem have not worked. Therapy is a safe and supportive environment in which to explore very personal concerns - concerns that may be difficult to share even with those closest to you. Finding a therapist is hard! It doesn't help that there are so many to choose from. I think the most important part is actually liking the person you are talking to. Take a look at my page (and website), and if you think we may be a good fit, I encourage you to call me for a free 15 minute consultation. If we end up working together, I will do my best to find which methods align with you so that I can help you get to the place you want to be.

I had the great privilege of training with Virginia Satir, a pioneer in a Systems approach to therapy. This approach examines how early learning in the family-of-origin, affects present day behavior. The many concepts she shared about people, how we can change and grow, have have been influential to me personally and inform my work. My wish is to share with others how to better communicate, improve relationships with self and others and, not only better cope with life challenges, but thrive. I join with clients to create a safe atmosphere where people can risk and grow.

Silicon Valley can be a stressful place to live. Sometimes, the demands of living and working in this area rob us of the passion we once had. If you are feeling pulled in too many directions...if you are feeling like your needs take a backseat to everything else in your life: kids, work, older parents, spouse, then I would like to help. You can feel like you once did, full of LIFE and PASSION. Running on empty can lead to depression, anxiety, relationship drama, and health problems. You can feel better, even THRIVE, while meeting life's challenges with ease.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
