My training and experience is primarily rooted in
somatic
experiencing, depth psychology, CBT, IFS and trauma-informed care and my approach to therapy is holistic and collaborative.
Therapy can sometimes be a confusing and arduous process, but the potential benefits can be lasting and profound. I work with individuals of all ages, races, genders, and relationship configurations to meet the goals that inspired the journey to begin therapy. Common issues I support clients with include navigating stressful life transitions, processing difficult emotions, healing from painful past experiences, shedding feelings of inadequacy, exploring personal identity, illuminating unhealthy cycles, and cultivating a deeper sense of meaning in their lives.

In addition to attending to emotions, I work with clients to focus on the body using
somatic
and mindfulness-based approaches.
If you are ready to make a change, you don't have to go it alone. Whether you're seeking therapy to better cope with life's challenges, heal from the past, or have more fulfilling relationships, I work to provide a safe, non-judgmental space based on respect and compassion. By attending to your emotional needs, I can support you in overcoming the difficulties that may feel overwhelming. Sometimes, ruptures in our relationships wound us. The therapeutic relationship can be key to healing. I see my client's resiliency and recognize our ability to overcome adversity and achieve positive outcomes.

somatic
therapies which, in combination, really get at the source of our stuck-ness to find that there's a healthy, centered sense of self inside us that can meet the challenges of life.

I utilize breathwork,
somatic
exploration, creative inquiry, nonviolent communication, and healing shame to empower you with self awareness, compassion and tools for growth.
The word “heal” comes from “to make whole.” Psychotherapy, more aptly psyche-therapy, is a sacred process of tending to the soul wound and waking more fully to one’s aliveness and inherent wholeness. I am deeply passionate about supporting you in healing the fragmented and disowned parts of self that hinder you from living a life of meaningful connections, purposeful self-agency and joy. We work collaboratively to creatively transform unconscious and limiting belief structures, access your resiliencies, welcome emerging truths, skillfully navigate adversity with new tools, and integrate insights for profound and evolving change.

Somatic
Psychotherapy to individual adults and children, as well as couples and families.
At times in life we experience suffering and struggle. Therapists can help navigate the complexities of life, our patterns, struggles, and pains. I can help clients find balance and relief as well as a sense of hope and purpose in life. For thirty-five years I've helped many find their curious and awake mind, and the wisdom of the body experience. The process of unraveling struggle, reprocessing trauma, learning skills, and awakening is a beautiful life-affirming one. I use ancient traditions such as mindfulness, and current findings to help my clients find their vitality, awareness, and well-being.

I primarily utilize a
somatic
/mindfulness/attachment-based approach.
I believe we all have the ability to change and grow. I work with Individuals and Couples who want to improve their lives. Trauma can keep us stuck in dysregulated emotional states. Isolation can make change difficult. Life transitions can be hard to navigate. Communication with loved ones can be challenging during conflicts. Abandonment and other relationship injuries are best healed in a relationship with a safe and secure person. As you contemplate creating change, you may find yourself in need of help and support. If you find yourself stuck and in emotional pain, collaboration with a therapist can begin your journey to healing.

I draw on recent brain science as well as experiential,
somatic
, spiritual methods.
I enjoy working with couples. The areas of upset often are a map, pointing us to possibilities of potential growth. Your difficulties can become a catalyst for increased intimacy. It's easy for any couple to get off track in efforts to communicate - slipping into blaming or power struggles, rather than your true communications, which can bring you closer and into deeper intimacy and trust. My job is to work together with you to help you develop skills that help reclaim happiness - communication skills, skills in understanding yourself and your partner, skills for building and rebuilding the life you want .

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
