You can heal and learn new ways of living! I hold the space in which a full and rewarding life is possible for you, even if you cannot yet imagine it for yourself.

I integrate mindfulness principles with the more traditional approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative, Emotionally Focused and
Psychodynamic
Theories.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with life, incongruent with who you are and who you want to be, have doubts about your ability to change that which you want to change, transition from a known place to the unknown…. Sometimes you just need someone to talk with and sort out your thoughts and feelings. Someone to help you better understand what motivates or hinders you. Someone who will teach you new skills to manage the feelings that seem unmanageable, or behavior that no longer serves you.

I utilize
psychodynamic
talk therapy and evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and EMDR.
Psychotherapy can offer a process to better understand the relationship between our thoughts, feelings (emotions and physiology), and behaviors. I work with people from all walks of life and specialize in treating anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma, career/identity issues, and adjustment difficulties related to life transitions and illness. Some of my therapeutic goals include helping clients manage symptoms of distress with healthier coping, improving relationships (with self and others), and exploring the ways in which current problems may be linked to unresolved issues from the past.

Using techniques from different therapies including CBT, DBT, Attachment Theory and Narrative therapy with a
psychodynamic
, person-center approach I offer a way out of the struggle.
Quite often people are reluctant to admit to having problems. Life is difficult when your problems are long lasting and impair your ability to function adequately in the world ie at work, school or in the home. Life is difficult when you can't seem to maintain satisfying, safe relationships w/others. You may feel that there's something wrong with you or that you just aren't ever going to be able to have the kind of life you want. And it's not for lack of trying. Perhaps you just don't know what to do. All that you have tried to do seems to have failed and left you floundering, frustrated and feeling hopeless.

I utilize a
psychodynamic
and relational approach with our relationship at the crux of our work together.
Are you feeling that you’re not able to truly be yourself around your family, friends or your partner? Does it feel like there is not enough space for your wants and needs when you’re with others? Or maybe you’re wondering, who am I outside of work or my relationships? If so, you’ve already taken a major step in looking for a therapist to support you. I specialize in working with feelings of low self-confidence and low self-esteem, dysfunctional family dynamics, codependency, and creating and maintaining boundaries.

My work is informed by transpersonal and
psychodynamic
therapy, mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems.
I approach psychotherapy from a whole-person perspective and I believe therapy, along with other practices, can help us awaken to a life of meaning. In therapy I will help you identify the source of your longing to be whole, and together, we will move closer to that source, so you become re-sourced. Together we will explore your innate natural cycles and help you align to your own rhythm, so that you might meet depletion with rest and energy with creativity.

"Sometimes when you're in a dark place you think you've been buried, but actually you've been planted"--Christine Caine. There is something painful in each of us that is waiting to be retrieved, healed and shaped into something beautiful. Our grief and longing draw us closer to our truest selves and help us surrender to being reshaped. Are you aware of what is withering inside of you to make room for the flowering of your Truest Self? Together we do more than just "fix" what troubles you...together we "craft the medicine" that truly heals.

Healing involves the whole person, not just the problems that person is struggling with. I believe that depression and anxiety are not random occurrences but have meaning. It is our task to discover the message contained within the pain. The sense of separateness that comes from this pain is often a separation from the self. As a trained homeopath, as well as a
psychodynamic
therapist, I have tools to treat both psychological and physical symptoms. I am faculty emeritus at the Women's Therapy Center and am a supervisor and instructor at The Psychotherapy Institute in Berkeley. I have also taught at Sonoma State University.

Working collaboratively with couples and individuals from an attachment, differentiation, and
psychodynamic
focus allows for integration of past negative experiences to become the same experiences that promote happiness, peace, joy, intimacy, and fulfillment.
Therapy is not the mystery it once was. Blending SCIENCE with COMPASSION, EMPATHY, SKILL, HUMOR, WARMTH, INTUITION, AND CONFIDENCE I will help you create the future you want and changes that last. How does change occur? How do I find the right therapist? These are both questions one asks whether embarking on this journey for the first time, or re-entering therapy for deeper connection. Therapy is also an art. Drawing from the palette of NEUROSCIENCE, THEORY, LIFE EXPERIENCE, TEACHING, PASSION, INTUITION, and SKILL, I will help you effect real change. I always begin with careful listening to your needs. Our relationship, and your understanding of yourself, are the keystones. These are much more important than the labels which have been placed on your problem. You may have already received "good advice" from friends and family. A trained and caring professional can help move you beyond the cycles you are stuck in. This is true whether you are seeking couple's counseling or individual therapy. I use emotion-focused, somatic, and
psychodynamic
approaches. I have completed the EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy) externship training program in couples therapy.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
