I provide a general therapy practice and specialize in the care of anger, anxiety, depression,
men's issues
, multicultural-issues, teens, and relationship concerns.
Are you ready to make a difference in your life? It is my hope that we will work together to unlock your inner potential. Many of us have dreams we leave on the back burner, as we pursue a conventional life. At times, we lose hope in the dream and it feels like the world is caving in around us. Externally we appear stable; hidden internally we may gain characteristics of anxiety and depression. My goal is to help you gain clarity in what you wish to achieve in this lifetime and to help you find the reason behind this uneasiness. Together, we can formulate a "roadmap" to navigate the unsteady, ever-changing, road of life.

Do you have a lot of strengths but keeps hitting a wall? Many of my clients have difficulty recognizing and articulating their emotions, which can lead to difficulty making decisions, asserting their needs, or setting healthy boundaries. They may feel disconnected from themselves and others, as if they are not fully present, leading to problems in their relationships and even with themselves. They may feel like their issues are not significant enough to warrant attention, and they may feel guilty for asking for help. Most feel that they should be able to manage things on their own. Does any of this sound familiar?

Between my life experience and my years of clinical work, I bring a broad depth of knowledge to my work as a therapist. This helps me to better understand and help my clients with the dilemmas they bring. I combine a non-shaming atmosphere with careful listening, and then bring forth tools and knowledge for them to use in their life outside the therapy room.

My clients seek self-knowledge, firm identity, clear purpose, and meaning in life. They wonder “What’s it all about?”, "Is this all there is?", "How do I find a way?" They avoid cookie-cutter formulas and truisms. They seek authenticity, freedom from self-blame, doubt, anxiety, and depression, confidence during life changes, clarity of purpose, and dignity in a confused and often shallow culture. They are willing to invest in themselves to find themselves. They seek understanding of their attachment style, repressed emotions, unconscious patterns, fixations, blind spots, and defenses.

The primary focus of my work is with couples and individuals of any sexual orientation and relationship style.

I believe that connection is our greatest human strength and that facilitating an understanding and pattern of safe connection to self and others is the primary work of therapy. I work relationally with my clients to provide a safe, stable, caring space where you can explore your life, your thoughts, your feelings and your needs. This form of exploration can help you move to see yourself with less judgment, more empathy, more self love and a deeper sense of understanding. When we operate from this place within ourselves, we are better able to make choices and decisions that result in less suffering.

I work with people who have Medicare insurance. My clients come to see me because they are in need to talk to someone about the changes in their lives, as they get older, as well as their feelings and needs around being isolated from the pandemic. As people age and reflect on their lives, some things can come up that need to be discussed or released and my practice offers a safe space to do so. Some people have a need for a therapist who can provide tele-health services over the phone or on a video chat and I offer these options to my clientele.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with life, incongruent with who you are and who you want to be, have doubts about your ability to change that which you want to change, transition from a known place to the unknown…. Sometimes you just need someone to talk with and sort out your thoughts and feelings. Someone to help you better understand what motivates or hinders you. Someone who will teach you new skills to manage the feelings that seem unmanageable, or behavior that no longer serves you.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
