I treat those who are struggling with trauma, abusive relationships, sexual abuse/ assault, traumatic events, early childhood trauma, anxiety, panic, depression, anger,
marital
issues, and adult children of an alcoholic parent or narcissistic family member.
You just want to feel better, I get it, I've been there too! Maybe you are struggling with trauma from a recent event, childhood, or an abusive relationship? It may have you depressed, anxious, panicked, wondering who this person is, and finding relationships hard to manage. Maybe you have tried some things on your own or therapy in the past but it did work, we can dig deep together to find the root cause of these issues and strategize a plan that works for you. This may be traditional talk therapy, body therapy, attachment work, or EMDR. Through these techniques we'll work to free you from distress, pain, anger and grief.

My commitment is to listen carefully, provide support, understand your concerns, help you to gain insight and guide you to identify available options while respecting your right to make your own choices. My style: Engaged and interactive. Capacity for empathy: Substantial. Methodology is always matched to individual, couple and family needs.

Working with me will be empowering, energetic, and at times fun. You will grieve losses, heal wounds, celebrate successes and reimagine your future. Together, we will explore childhood relationship programing and work on a reboot of early patterns that are no longer useful. I will help you choose healthier roles and boundaries, while building a life with you in the driver's seat. "For every event in life, there are many different angles. When you look at the same event from a wider perspective, your sense of worry and anxiety reduces, and you have greater joy." - The Dalai Lama

I help couples as they get together, with
marriage
problems, and as part of a collaborative team, with a respectful divorce process.
I believe it is the "personhood" of the therapist that is most important for a genuine therapeutic relationship. I am compassionate, very intelligent and plain speaking. I have treated adults and couples for 28 years. I have lots of life experience too, which will hopefully help in understanding your issues. I am a wife and mother, have lived in 4 countries and trained therapists for 10 years. I help young and not-so-young people with their relationships with others and themselves, and with those transitions that are part of human existence.

I have been in the field of psychology since 1985. I am licensed as
Marriage
Family Therapist (1989) and Clinical Psychologist (1992).What guides my work is the belief that everyone, no matter their behavior, is doing the very best they can in that moment. Most often, aberrant behavior is the result of beliefs learned in childhood that are brought forward into adulthood which are no longer appropriate or functional.

Even the children of dedicated, responsible parents can develop behavioral or emotional problems as they move through childhood and adolescence. Sometimes the acting out or other worrisome behaviors occur only at home. Other times, the difficulties erupt at school. Or both. Perhaps what you or the school has tried isn't working. You may be blaming yourself even though it is not your fault. At these times, an experienced child therapist can help you and your family get back on track.

How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
