Couples face endless challenges, which often improve with simple communication. Intimacy, sex, love, trust and/or
cheating
often bring couples to therapy ... although anger, disappointment, dishonesty, family, finances, illness, in-laws, parenting, and power struggles may contribute as well. Effective therapy begins with trust, which allows couples to explore issues and express emotion. I take a kind, common-sense approach as I assist couples to heal and to bond. My work is deep, compassionate and supportive so that you can clarify your goals, create new solutions, and work through problems and pain. (707) 996-9434.

Sexual issues can - and do - happen to anyone. Perhaps you struggle to experience the pleasure of sexuality and eroticism; perhaps there is an aspect of your sexuality that is confusing to you; perhaps you or your partner have a sexual dysfunction like painful intercourse or erectile dysfunction; perhaps you are in a low sex/no sex relationship; or perhaps you're reeling from learning of your partner's
betrayal
. In our sex-negative culture, these are difficult issues to talk about. I am here to help. After all, everyone has the right to a healthy and happy sex life.

Are you ready to experience trust, intimacy, and love again? When these areas are compromised in any relationship, the health and vitality of that partnership suffers. When that relational damage is a result of
infidelity
, porn,
affairs
, on-line chats, or hook-ups, often, neither the partner nor the addict know where to turn for help. As a Certified Sexual Recovery Therapist, I am committed to providing a lifeline for both individuals and couples so that authentic communication and integrity can be restored.

I specialize in somatic psychotherapy, a body/mind approach that helps you change core beliefs and attitudes that are causing you suffering. My approach is relational and uses mindfulness to bring awareness to the parts of yourself you don't ordinarily notice. In our sessions, we slow down and pay attention the story your body is telling as well as the mind. The work is highly experiential, creative and transformative!

We are the therapy office for people who don't like therapy. Our belief is that therapy doesn't have to be the uncomfortable, somewhat formal experience that most people expect. We have 2 therapy dogs, Jackson and Larry to greet you when you come in the door. Larry is Jackson's understudy and is still quite ..well ... enthusiastic in greeting clients (as long as you're not the mailman). For privacy, we have no on Mendocino Ave, but once you get inside you'll know that you're in the right place. We talk to you like one human to another to help you sort out what's going on in your world and how we can help.

I believe we all have multiple aspects to our personalities shaped by our years of living. Together, we look at how past experiences influence one's current choices and feelings. Sometimes it can be difficult to regulate all of these feelings, which can affect relationships, parenting and self esteem. I provide a safe, nurturing therapeutic place to explore these issues, and help restore happiness to one's life.

What happens when people open their hearts? They get better - Haruki Murakami. Often people chose to remain silent because of fears to the unknown. I want you to know that here you don't have to face the unknown alone. Paths in life and experiences may vary but that is what makes us unique. We all have a stories to share, problems to solve, and a future to look forward to. The journey to wholeness and healing is not linear but instead personal to each individual. Many of us need a safe place to be ourselves, to be heard, to be understood, and most importantly to understand ourselves. If you are here today, you are in the right place

You may feel overwhelmed by the desire to make changes but don’t know where to start, or even what you need. As a therapist, and fellow human, I know how complicated, stressful and confusing life can be. Painful past events can leave us defeated and disconnected. Major life transitions can be overwhelming. Depression & anxiety can rob us of vitality and mental peace. In my work, I strive to create a welcoming space that allows you to feel encouraged, understood, and capable of positive change. My sessions with clients are often peppered with moments of humor, gentle directness, and deep realness.

I utilize a holistic and integrative approach that offers a safe, supportive setting, using dream analysis, mindfulness, art therapy, journaling, meditation and other creative ways leading to an authentic and more rewarding life. From my studies under Rev. Kawakami, deputy head priest of Shunkoin Temple in Kyoto in Mindfulness and Zen Meditation, I have developed this therapeutic approach that treats, balances, and nourishes the mind, body, emotions, and soul. I use a variety of therapeutic perspectives and techniques including Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral, Jungian, and Mindfulness-based interventions.

How does therapy for infidelity work?
A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.
How long does therapy for infidelity take?
Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.
How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?
When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.
How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?
Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
