Working together, we can establish a safe space, to deeply explore and affirm your unique identity and expression. We'll focus on your strengths and support you in finding clarity to live the authentic life you want.

I am committed to cultivating cultural competence and affirming the LGBTQ + community.
Do you have a lot of strengths but keeps hitting a wall? Many of my clients have difficulty recognizing and articulating their emotions, which can lead to difficulty making decisions, asserting their needs, or setting healthy boundaries. They may feel disconnected from themselves and others, as if they are not fully present, leading to problems in their relationships and even with themselves. They may feel like their issues are not significant enough to warrant attention, and they may feel guilty for asking for help. Most feel that they should be able to manage things on their own. Does any of this sound familiar?

As a justice oriented therapist who identifies as white, queer , and trans /non-binary, I approach therapy through a depathologizing lens.
Therapy is most effective as a collaborative process in which your needs and desires for growth are prioritized. The foundation of my approach to therapy stems from the wholehearted belief that our bodyminds, those seemingly interminable knots of body and psyche, are orientated towards liberation. As much as we may desire freedom from those things that provoke suffering in our lives, we also desire the freedom to imagine new futures.

I have particular expertise in adult psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, traumatic stress, LGBTQ + issues, loss, and relationship problems.
We all have the potential to lead a fulfilling life. Difficult challenges may keep us from reaching that potential though, and we can find ourselves stuck in repetitive cycles of suffering. I offer individual psychotherapy and neurofeedback with a focus on the alleviation of symptoms through inner transformation. With close attention to the unresolved emotional pain and nervous system dysregulation that drive symptoms, I help clients find resilience within the difficulties they face. I draw from time-tested and evidence-based approaches suited to each client's unique needs, and offer weekly sessions or longer trauma intensives.

I work with straight and LGBTQ + adult individuals and couples with a wide array of sexual problems like sexual dysfunctions, low libido, infrequent sexual activity, and betrayals of various kinds.
Sexual issues can - and do - happen to anyone. Perhaps you struggle to experience the pleasure of sexuality and eroticism; perhaps there is an aspect of your sexuality that is confusing to you; perhaps you or your partner have a sexual dysfunction like painful intercourse or erectile dysfunction; perhaps you are in a low sex/no sex relationship; or perhaps you're reeling from learning of your partner's betrayal. In our sex-negative culture, these are difficult issues to talk about. I am here to help. After all, everyone has the right to a healthy and happy sex life.

Personal experience has prepared me to work with couples (including separation and divorce); parenting and special needs parenting; LGBT issues and teens.
Humans are social animals - by nature we need to feel connected ("in relationship"). Life today is SO stressful! If we feel connected we can manage our stressful lives. If we don't feel connected then it doesn't matter what else is happening - life won't feel very satisfying. Through the therapeutic process you and I will work on improving your relationships with yourself and others, which can help you feel more safe and secure, and that your life is more meaningful and satisfying. When your relationships are better, you have more focus and energy for life!

What is most important in therapy is that you feel deeply supported and understood. Finding a therapist who shares your LGBTQ + identity is one less obstacle to being understood. My approach to therapy is collaborative and interactive, where we work together to reach your goals in a safe and supportive environment. Together we can find new ways to uncover your strengths and resources and make changes that leave you more balanced, happy, and authentic. My style is warm and curious and I seek to create relationships attuned to each client.

I welcome LGBTQ + clients neurodivergent clients as well.
I offer a warm, relational, effective approach to therapy. So much can be healed with the careful attunement of a skilled therapist, and with the trust and safety that can built in the room together. I work as an integral therapist, combining modalities as needed for each Cl, including working with childhood wounds, with mindfulness, and depth work. I also utilize Brainspotting, a deep brain technique to efficiently process deeply rooted traumas and bring safety and relief to your nervous system. I draw on research in the areas of trauma, attachment, and the brain to ground my practice.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
