For over 20 years I have been helping men,
women
and couples when their lives have become painful, deadened, upsetting, or when unexpected events disrupted their lives. I will join with you to help tolerate immediate concerns, to develop effective techniques for you, and if you want, explore further possibilities for more satisfying relationships and life. I'm experienced in both brief, solution-focused therapy, and exploratory deep therapy. I offer clients an empathic, collaborative and individually-focused therapeutic relationship: the surprising paradox of relationship is how we can become more true to ourselves by fully being with someone else.

Specialties: cross cultural issues, mid life (and later),
women
's issues, men seeking to understand
women
and themselves, sexuality, gay/lesbian, stress, depression, anxiety, assertiveness, co-dependence, work issues and identity/spiritual questing.
I believe it is the "personhood" of the therapist that is most important for a genuine therapeutic relationship. I am compassionate, very intelligent and plain speaking. I have treated adults and couples for 28 years. I have lots of life experience too, which will hopefully help in understanding your issues. I am a wife and mother, have lived in 4 countries and trained therapists for 10 years. I help young and not-so-young people with their relationships with others and themselves, and with those transitions that are part of human existence.

I am particularly passionate about
women
's health and supporting
women
on the childbearing continuum.
I specialize in supporting
women
during life transitions. This might be due to welcoming a new child into your home and relationship, life stage (perimenopause /menopause), ending a relationship or a chronic illness. You might be experiencing a sense that you have lost a part of yourself. Maybe your anxiety or depression is preventing you from enjoying your life fully, or feeling overwhelmed with how to move forward with the life that you want. Often during life's transitions it is a powerful time to take a pause and reflect. I am here to support you as a guide back to your own inner wisdom and path home to yourself.

I have experience as a teacher of special needs students and have facilitated anger management groups for both men and
women
.
In life we often experience once beautiful relationships that have become strained or distant leaving us feeling depressed, anxious, ineffective or alone. Old anger, boundary issues, financial stress, or pain of loss can leave you at odds with friends, co-workers or the family members you love. As a parent you may feel guilty or overwhelmed as you watch your children struggle with academics, disadvantages, peer relationships or self-esteem. Perhaps you are that child or teen feeling pulled down by the expectations of teachers or parents, divorce, social isolation, the legal system or the complexities of an intimate relationship.

I believe that the relationship between client and therapist is the foundation in order for any healing to happen. Trust and mutual respect is important for progress to be made and I spend time getting to know the client and what brings them in. The client is the expert on their life and their experiences, and I feel privileged to be the witness of that journey. Most of the people I work with are children, adolescents or young adults, but I also enjoy working with
women
and adults in areas of transition, family issues, relationships, parenting or looking for support or personal growth.

Group Support (Men,
Women
, Teen, and Co-Parenting Groups); 3.
I help kids, teens, and families experiencing divorce create a fulfilling “new normal” by moving from stuck and overwhelmed to thriving and free. I know that you are more than a person going through a divorce. It is overwhelming to ensure your kids are supported, especially while you are learning what it means to be a single parent, navigating the impossible waters of being a healthy co-parent, adjusting to the new financial realities, and not to mention dealing with your own heartbreak.

woman
who feels like something's missing in your life, or in you? Do you tend to put your needs last or minimize your problems? Maybe you're hard on yourself too. And you've been pulled off balance by: stress, anxiety, self-doubt, depression, grief, life transition, relationship struggles or career/life dissatisfaction. I counsel and coach
women
just like you through challenging and confusing life passages and difficult times. I'll help you reclaim the wise, empowered
woman
within and also encourage you to see yourself as worthy and good enough. The result: self-compassion, self-belief, deeper connections, more aliveness.

Therapy can be a scary journey to embark on, or possibly a taboo, depending on your culture. As a Hispanic
woman
, who once was a single mom, and now having a blended family, I have experienced many challenges. I have felt lost and thought no one understood me, and though some days are still harder than others, I have been triumphant and regained a sense of control in my life. People come to me when life circumstances have become too overwhelming and no longer know how to regain control of their life. I have worked with diverse populations: race, age, gender, multiracial, single mothers, perinatal and postpartum, to name a few.

I also offer specialized services for prenatal/postpartum
women
, and therapy to support parents and young children age 0-5.
I believe that our moments of greatest struggle can also hold the most potential for growth and self-discovery. By giving ourselves a supportive space to explore the places that feel painful or stuck, we open ourselves to a wealth of information about our deepest desires, strengths, and wisdom. This makes it possible to live with greater self-compassion, freedom in our actions, and ease in our relationships. Whether you are navigating a significant life transition, suffering from anxiety, depression, or trauma, I am dedicated to providing a safe and respectful space to embark on this journey.

As a counselor specializing in supporting children, young adults, and
women
, being present with my clients is more important than using a specific technique. I blend a supportive client-centered approach with creativity and compassion, providing a warm, nurturing therapeutic environment. I will listen closely to understand your life and your world, drawing from many styles, including solution-focused, narrative, and cognitive therapy. I am an empathetic listener and insightful guide, asking questions to help identify goals and clear away confusion and past or current pain that may be blocking the release of self-defeating patterns.

I specialize in helping
women
step into their power and find freedom from anxiety.
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, or low self esteem? Do you wish you had a better body image, or could control emotional eating? Have difficulty setting boundaries and find yourself resentful because of it? Many people who didn't get their needs met in the past struggle to be truly kind to themselves and need a compassionate witness in that process. These are some of the issues I work with on a regular basis in my practice. I see people new to therapy, as well as those who are continuing their journey towards greater authenticity, healing, and meaning.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
