Navigating life is often challenging for teens & young adults. It is easy to feel lost and overwhelmed by the demands and expectations that are placed on them. However, with the right support this can be an incredibly interesting and exciting time in their lives! I have helped many youth and families find their way and even thrive during this period. Many teens struggle with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, anger-management, family conflict, and traumatic experiences. I focus on improving emotional well-being, enhancing communication with peers and family , and making good decisions regarding relationships and personal safety.

I have a gentle yet direct approach to therapy, incorporating my training/experience in family systems, humanistic and psychodynamic orientations.
Is it easier for you to give than to receive? Are you a nurse, therapist, teacher, or in another "helping profession"? Are you in a relationship but are struggling with the same issues and can't find your way to a better way of relating? You are not alone! You deserve to be happy and fulfilled. You can heal and learn new ways of living! I hold the space in which a full and rewarding life is possible for you, even if you cannot yet imagine it for yourself.

I have witnessed family members, as a result of therapy, heal from the profound shame that can linger from poor parenting, past trauma, addiction or loss.
In life we often experience once beautiful relationships that have become strained or distant leaving us feeling depressed, anxious, ineffective or alone. Old anger, boundary issues, financial stress, or pain of loss can leave you at odds with friends, co-workers or the family members you love. As a parent you may feel guilty or overwhelmed as you watch your children struggle with academics, disadvantages, peer relationships or self-esteem. Perhaps you are that child or teen feeling pulled down by the expectations of teachers or parents, divorce, social isolation, the legal system or the complexities of an intimate relationship.

I treat those who are struggling with trauma, abusive relationships, sexual abuse/ assault, traumatic events, early childhood trauma, anxiety, panic, depression, anger, marital issues, and adult children of an alcoholic parent or narcissistic family member.
You just want to feel better, I get it, I've been there too! Maybe you are struggling with trauma from a recent event, childhood, or an abusive relationship? It may have you depressed, anxious, panicked, wondering who this person is, and finding relationships hard to manage. Maybe you have tried some things on your own or therapy in the past but it did work, we can dig deep together to find the root cause of these issues and strategize a plan that works for you. This may be traditional talk therapy, body therapy, attachment work, or EMDR. Through these techniques we'll work to free you from distress, pain, anger and grief.

In our sessions together, whether they be individual, or family counseling, we will explore your thoughts, ideas, feelings, perceptions and judgments.
I believe in the Existential/Humanistic school of thought and the importance of making meaning in our lives. By meeting my clients in the here-and-now, I am able to work with them where they are presently, without going too far ahead of them or getting bogged down in the past. I’m collaborative, creative, and believe in an integrated approach when working with people. No single form of therapy works for all clients, so I am comfortable using different psychotherapeutic approaches. I believe that true psychological healing comes from the experience the client has with the clinician, so the relationship itself is of great value

Even the children of dedicated, responsible parents can develop behavioral or emotional problems as they move through childhood and adolescence. Sometimes the acting out or other worrisome behaviors occur only at home. Other times, the difficulties erupt at school. Or both. Perhaps what you or the school has tried isn't working. You may be blaming yourself even though it is not your fault. At these times, an experienced child therapist can help you and your family get back on track.

I am a bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a diverse background working with children, teens and adults.
The world is a wild and wondrous place to exist. There is so much to be curious about as we follow our respective paths. However, sometimes the path can become obscured causing us to feel lost, confused, even scared or defeated. Amidst the constant buzz of living, we need a place of stillness, of safety, to see ourselves clearly again. I am here to provide you a safe, judgement-free holding space to explore your own path and rediscover yourself in it. In our work together, we will focus on using the strength of human connection as a bridge to our own healing.

I draw on family systems theory, CBT, humanistic psychology, Buddhist mindfulness, nutritional psychology, and trauma work including EMDR, and the body-mind connection found in EFT (tapping).
Proactive counseling for body, mind and spirit! With more than 30 years of experience, I combine a range of modalities in a supportive counseling atmosphere that combines elements of life coaching with deeper reworking of old patterns that no longer serve. I am a highly interactive therapist, who will give direct but caring feedback about changes you may wish to make in your life and obstacles standing in your way. I believe that one key to success is breaking behavioral change into bite-sized, manageable increments so the client is not overwhelmed and has the opportunity to enjoy consistent success.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
