I believe in working in a holistic way, helping you integrate body, mind, and soul to create the life you want. A collaborative therapeutic relationship leads to successful outcomes, and with your input I will tailor my approach to your needs. My style tends to be Cognitive-Behavioral and solution focused. I also believe in integrating
family
dynamics into treatment. Reinforcing your strengths and teaching you how to manage your daily struggles is one of my first goals, as well as helping you see how negative patterns of thinking can lead to problematic behaviors.

I understand that human beings are multifaceted. It can be hard to understand why you think and behave the way you do. You may experience conflicting feelings that lead you in circles or undermine your deepest wishes or goals. You may also be grappling with loss, life transition,
family
conflict, and the end of a relationship. You may struggle with a new role as a step-parent or new spouse. Life events and transitions can be disruptive and confusing. In therapy, we discover that challenging times lead us to grow into ourselves more fully and authentically.

I have witnessed
family
members, as a result of therapy, heal from the profound shame that can linger from poor parenting, past trauma, addiction or loss.
In life we often experience once beautiful relationships that have become strained or distant leaving us feeling depressed, anxious, ineffective or alone. Old anger, boundary issues, financial stress, or pain of loss can leave you at odds with friends, co-workers or the
family
members you love. As a parent you may feel guilty or overwhelmed as you watch your children struggle with academics, disadvantages, peer relationships or self-esteem. Perhaps you are that child or teen feeling pulled down by the expectations of teachers or parents, divorce, social isolation, the legal system or the complexities of an intimate relationship.

Caring for a dependent person with whom you have a previous history is uniquely challenging.
Family
histories and dynamics do not go away when someone gets sick. In addition to juggling the tasks of helping a dependent
family
member get through the day, caregivers are balancing obligations such as work, parenting and other responsibilities. One's own health and wellbeing, finances, and other roles and relationships can all be affected by the demands of caregiving. Finding balance and coping with ambiguity can be challenging, especially in the presence of emotional undercurrents such as grief, loss, resentment, guilt and overwhelm.

I see my work as that of a consultant to your life situation. The primary task is to understand how our emotions, & the emotions of those we love & interact with, informs the quality of our relational life. In other words, to gain greater emotional intelligence. And what does that mean? To gain a greater understanding of ourselves, & those we love, by learning about inner life and how best to express what we feel, need and want from each other. Better communication makes for better partnering, parenting &
family
membership.

I believe that the relationship between client and therapist is the foundation in order for any healing to happen. Trust and mutual respect is important for progress to be made and I spend time getting to know the client and what brings them in. The client is the expert on their life and their experiences, and I feel privileged to be the witness of that journey. Most of the people I work with are children, adolescents or young adults, but I also enjoy working with women and adults in areas of transition,
family
issues, relationships, parenting or looking for support or personal growth.

I have over a decade of experience with working with adolescents and families as well as being a parent of active teenagers in a blended

******Currently not accepting new clients******* Are you frustrated with your relationship with your adolescent? Is your adolescent frustrated with you? Parenting is difficult as is being a developing child. You are not alone in these experiences.
Family
life is often difficult, especially when cell phones, friends, social media, and video games are competing for your adolescent’s attention. The demands of school, sports, mood swings, and chores also contribute to this stress.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
