Thank you for your interest in my practice. We often need support as we try to make sense of this messy thing called life! I have a deep respect and appreciation for the many challenges associated with navigating a child's developmental journey, the joy and stress of parenting, finding balance within your relationship and unity as a
family
. When working with young children, I believe the most important person in your child’s life is YOU, and I aim to involve parents throughout the therapeutic process so you are able to continue to support your child at home.

I have specialized training in play therapy, sandplay therapy,
family therapy
and psychotherapy with all ages.
Even the children of dedicated, responsible parents can develop behavioral or emotional problems as they move through childhood and adolescence. Sometimes the acting out or other worrisome behaviors occur only at home. Other times, the difficulties erupt at school. Or both. Perhaps what you or the school has tried isn't working. You may be blaming yourself even though it is not your fault. At these times, an experienced child therapist can help you and your
family
get back on track.

I treat those who are struggling with trauma, abusive relationships, sexual abuse/ assault, traumatic events, early childhood trauma, anxiety, panic, depression, anger, marital issues, and adult children of an alcoholic parent or narcissistic
family
member.
You just want to feel better, I get it, I've been there too! Maybe you are struggling with trauma from a recent event, childhood, or an abusive relationship? It may have you depressed, anxious, panicked, wondering who this person is, and finding relationships hard to manage. Maybe you have tried some things on your own or therapy in the past but it did work, we can dig deep together to find the root cause of these issues and strategize a plan that works for you. This may be traditional talk therapy, body therapy, attachment work, or EMDR. Through these techniques we'll work to free you from distress, pain, anger and grief.

Divorce is one of the most stressful events a person or
family
will experience in their lifetime, and reaching out for support is a brave step! Visit my website or schedule an intake call and I'd love to learn how I can support your and your
family
.
I help kids, teens, and families experiencing divorce create a fulfilling “new normal” by moving from stuck and overwhelmed to thriving and free. I know that you are more than a person going through a divorce. It is overwhelming to ensure your kids are supported, especially while you are learning what it means to be a single parent, navigating the impossible waters of being a healthy co-parent, adjusting to the new financial realities, and not to mention dealing with your own heartbreak.

I have over a decade of experience with working with adolescents and families as well as being a parent of active teenagers in a blended
family
.
******Currently not accepting new clients******* Are you frustrated with your relationship with your adolescent? Is your adolescent frustrated with you? Parenting is difficult as is being a developing child. You are not alone in these experiences.
Family
life is often difficult, especially when cell phones, friends, social media, and video games are competing for your adolescent’s attention. The demands of school, sports, mood swings, and chores also contribute to this stress.

I see my work as that of a consultant to your life situation. The primary task is to understand how our emotions, & the emotions of those we love & interact with, informs the quality of our relational life. In other words, to gain greater emotional intelligence. And what does that mean? To gain a greater understanding of ourselves, & those we love, by learning about inner life and how best to express what we feel, need and want from each other. Better communication makes for better partnering, parenting &
family
membership.

In our sessions together, whether they be individual, or
family
counseling, we will explore your thoughts, ideas, feelings, perceptions and judgments.
I believe in the Existential/Humanistic school of thought and the importance of making meaning in our lives. By meeting my clients in the here-and-now, I am able to work with them where they are presently, without going too far ahead of them or getting bogged down in the past. I’m collaborative, creative, and believe in an integrated approach when working with people. No single form of therapy works for all clients, so I am comfortable using different psychotherapeutic approaches. I believe that true psychological healing comes from the experience the client has with the clinician, so the relationship itself is of great value

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
