adolescent
frustrated with you? Parenting is difficult as is being a developing child. You are not alone in these experiences. Family life is often difficult, especially when cell phones, friends, social media, and video games are competing for your

Group Support (Men, Women,
Teen
, and Co-Parenting Groups); 3.
I help kids, teens, and families experiencing divorce create a fulfilling “new normal” by moving from stuck and overwhelmed to thriving and free. I know that you are more than a person going through a divorce. It is overwhelming to ensure your kids are supported, especially while you are learning what it means to be a single parent, navigating the impossible waters of being a healthy co-parent, adjusting to the new financial realities, and not to mention dealing with your own heartbreak.

In life we often experience once beautiful relationships that have become strained or distant leaving us feeling depressed, anxious, ineffective or alone. Old anger, boundary issues, financial stress, or pain of loss can leave you at odds with friends, co-workers or the family members you love. As a parent you may feel guilty or overwhelmed as you watch your children struggle with academics, disadvantages, peer relationships or self-esteem. Perhaps you are that child or
teen
feeling pulled down by the expectations of teachers or parents, divorce, social isolation, the legal system or the complexities of an intimate relationship.

I believe we all carry within us everything we need to heal. There are also times in our lives when we need extra support to access inner resources, healing and growth. As your therapist, we will explore together ways that old habits, patterns and history limit the life you want to be living. Whether you are stressed, anxious or overwhelmed, facing big life transitions, worried about your
teen
, or longing for more meaning and connection in your relationships, you are not alone in your struggle. It is a courageous act to get support and I honor your unique life journey.

Know a
teen
that needs support? Reach out to me for a referral.
I approach psychotherapy from a whole-person perspective and I believe therapy, along with other practices, can help us awaken to a life of meaning. In therapy I will help you identify the source of your longing to be whole, and together, we will move closer to that source, so you become re-sourced. Together we will explore your innate natural cycles and help you align to your own rhythm, so that you might meet depletion with rest and energy with creativity.

What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
