The skills we teach our couples we utilize every day in our marriage .
Kindness, empathy, appreciation, and eroticism are a few of the states I cultivate in the couples counseling center I operate with my husband, Duane Harvey. My approach uniquely combines evidence-based therapy and mind/body practices to help couples work through and grow from negative patterns. I offer couples a powerful framework to heal past wounds, improve communication, and deepen their intimacy. Frequently couples feel hopeful and positively engaged after the first session.

With MARRIAGE AND COUPLES I believe there are no "bad" spouses, only those, who keep trying to do the same thing to get a different response.
My clients like me because I am a very active therapist. You will not just get a "How does that make you feel?" question. Of course I want to know how something makes you feel, but I want for you to be able to get some answers and treatment that leads to a real change in your life. My website at Crystalnash.com states "Therapy can be intense, but it doesn't have to be drudgery. There is laughter through the tears, when we recognize our human frailty. The "Ah ha! Eureka!" moments give energy and hope for the future."

As a teacher, author, education researcher, and therapist I have seen how small changes in family dynamics, a marriage or a single person's sense of well-being can make a huge difference.
I work with clients struggling with severe trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety and a variety of life challenges. I have seen many learn to sleep deeply, break free of repetitive worrying thoughts, get excited about life and increase their health and energy. I feel honored that people share their stories with me and have found that no situation is ever without hope. Life can be so much better. If you choose to share with me, we will find a way together.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
