It may be hard to imagine that your eating disorder or anxiety attacks (for example) can take you somewhere positive, but every problem we encounter has the potential to move us to a place of greater self-understanding,
bringing us to a place that’s even better than where we started. I facilitate an intense process (delivered with a good dose of empathy) wherein clients can develop a better understanding of themselves, their behavior and their relationships and create meaningful changes based on personal values.

Using humor, authenticity, and unwavering compassion, I approach healing and recovery from a place of empowered vulnerability. I acknowledge the multitude of complexities that come with the human condition and the various systemic barriers, developmental traumas, and life stressors that can impact an individual and perpetuate suffering. Rooted in advocacy and social justice, I collaborate with clients and creatively explore ways for us to fully embody their strengths and apply them harmoniously to heal emotional wounds that have kept them from fully participating in their lives.

I’m experienced in helping individuals and couples manage depression, anxiety, eating disorders, life-transitions, self-esteem, sexual intimacy, grief, aging, trauma, anger, and gender identity.
Being human is exciting and beautiful... and challenging! My work is grounded in respect and empathy for how individuals, couples, and families pave a path in life. Together we make change possible by bringing your unique, personal knowledge and experience into awareness, and then moving through the stuckness of painful trauma, unkind thoughts, or feelings of powerlessness before problems. Together we will work to reconnect you to the whole experience of being human: feeling emotions, attuning to thoughts and beliefs, creating healthy relationships, and recognizing your whole life story in its complexity of joy, sorrow, and growth.

I help adults struggling with body image, disordered eating, and anxiety.
You’re the one who holds it together. The capable one. The one others rely on. And yet inside, you may feel exhausted, overwhelmed, or stuck, especially when it comes to food, your body, or the constant pressure to be “good enough.” Many of my clients can appear “fine” on the outside while privately dealing with food rules, body checking, shame, perfectionism, people-pleasing, emotional numbness, or a relentless inner critic. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to keep doing this by yourself.

Whether you are struggling with an eating disorder, drug or alcohol abuse, additive behaviors, relationship issues, I provide an inviting environment to begin your journey of discovery.
My goal is to help my patient’s navigate their journey of life. Having traveled through many personal challenges, I bring much of my life's experiences into the therapeutic realm. I believe in growth and acceptance of one's place in the present. I have found the way in which we move through the world is usually the path of what is familiar to us, but too often this way no longer serves us. Shifting our way of thinking can stimulate an alternative pathway of moving through the world and achieving the peace of mind we seek.

I value working with folks who are navigating eating disorders or disordered eating, which often develop as protective coping mechanisms for underlying challenges.
My ideal client is someone who struggles to feel a sense of belonging, may struggle with their relationship to food, their bodies or complex trauma, and often feels the need to mask, perform, or perfect. Many are neurodivergent or highly sensitive. They seek to connect more deeply with themselves, integrate all parts of who they are, and cultivate a sense of home within. They value a relational, attuned, and compassionate approach to healing.

My background includes working at Harvard University’s Counseling and Mental Health Service, where I led the Eating Disorder Team and worked closely with student-athletes.
On paper things might look fine, but inside it’s a different story. You’re juggling classes, deadlines, relationships, and big decisions about your future. It’s a lot. Anxiety, burnout, or self-doubt can creep in quietly and leave you feeling unmoored. Whether you’re in college, grad school, or figuring out post-grad life, therapy can be a place to slow down and sort through it all. I specialize in working with students and young adults navigating adjustment, uncertainty, and pressure from both the outside world and their own inner critic. You don’t have to have it all figured out to get support.

Experienced working with CPTSD, dissociation, crisis, addiction and eating disorders.
Do you experience overwhelming thoughts and/or emotions? Do you experience inner-conflict and self doubt? Do you find yourself stuck in old patterns/behaviors and unsure of how to change them? For many these experiences can result in feeling frustrated, scared, hopeless and alone, often coping in self-damaging ways. These are normal responses to trauma and overwhelming/painful experiences. While I incorporate more traditional evidenced based modalities such as CBT, and DBT, I also recognize that emotions, implicit memories and trauma can get stuck in the body, which is why talk therapy alone often isn’t enough.

Hi and thanks for reaching out. It takes courage to click on a therapist's profile and I am excited for you that you did just that. We all need help from time to time and asking for it is so important. Maybe you are feeling anxious or depressed. Maybe life after COVID is harder than you expected. Or, maybe you have some issues that have dogged you your whole life and you are fed up with them. Whatever is going on for you right now, having a trusted sounding board, someone to listen to you and help you figure things out is a great idea. I’d like to be that person for you. So, who am I?

I am an art therapist and LMFT who works with trauma, neurodivergence, eating disorders, OCD, and personality disorders.
Being a human is freaking hard, and even more so when you get into complicated dynamics with relationships, work, or family. Perhaps it's all feeling like too much? Or maybe things have gotten so tangled that you spend your days feeling lost and overwhelmed? Starting therapy does not mean that you are broken; it means that you are ready to evolve. Combining my training in art, exercise science, and diverse therapeutic modalities, I offer a healing experience that challenges old patterns in both mind and body so that you can explore new ways of being (or relating) and grow into a life that you truly want to be living.

Eating Disorders Therapists
What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
