You work, pay bills, socialize, maybe exercise (or not) and wake up to do it all over again. There is more to life than running the “rat race”. If you are starting to question your values, your thought processes, even your choices because you know there is more; Let’s dig a little deeper. Let us take a journey in your life by going back to childhood experiences that have shaped you or at the minimum, had some effect on your current position in life. Addressing personal, relational, and professional issues can be difficult but from the famous saying “whether you believe that you can or cannot you are right.”

On the outside, you make success look easy, though it comes at a cost. You hide parts of yourself leaving you wrestling with anxiety, self-esteem, or shame/guilt. Through my supportive and calm nature, I work to offer a safe space that recognizes the duality within yourself, so you can move closer to your authentic self. I enjoy and have success helping clients improve communication, understanding emotions, and create a healthy relationship with themselves and others. I am passionate about empowering you to live the life you love by deepening your insight and finding practical solutions.

In your search for a therapist, you will want someone who both understands what you are going through, and who is passionately committed to working with you to figure out where you want to go and how to get there. Therapy is above all a process and journey of self discovery which requires a guide who is patient and supportive, and at the same time encouraging and persistent to help you understand your self and the often hidden patterns of your life and relationships that hold you back. I offer a healing dialogue that is pragmatic and integrative, while providing a trusting environment for growth and change.

My approach is first to provide a safe space for you to discuss what brings you here. From there we can tailor an approach that's best for you and your goals. I use approaches related to CBT, Positive Psychology, Mindfulness, Coaching and EMDR. These can help you process what is contributing to any symptoms related to anxiety, stress, relationship issues, depression and beyond. I am here to assist you to find the solutions and access your innate ability to heal and work through issues. The point of therapy is to become more resilient to life, more authentic and freer to live in a way that is more fulfilling for you.

Beginning therapy can be scary and intimidating, but also hopeful. Discussing your wishes and uncertainties in session can promote clarity and lead to positive changes in thinking and behavior that are necessary to improve circumstances and relationships. Action is required for positive life changes to occur. It isn't always easy figuring out what action to take or what changes to make. Therapy is a safe place to explore these thoughts and feelings. Small shifts can lead to large improvements in mood and relationships. Please reach out with questions or to schedule an initial consultation.

I work collaboratively with clients to create a comfortable and authentic environment to open up a safe space for a rich and productive experience. I enjoy helping biracial couples who might be struggling with cultural blending, as well as couples who are finding & building their identity as a couple. I've been successful working with adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, life stress, relationship/family conflict, self-esteem issues, & C-PTSD. I also work with teens experiencing grief and other losses. I am especially passionate about working with the BIPOC community and anyone who identifies as a child of immigrants!

Your emotions are at the center of who you are as a person. If you feel your feelings as distinctive, you feel your individuality. If you feel without too much evasion, you feel genuine and alive as a person. Equally central to your emotional life, and to your personhood, is human relationship. Your relationships with others, past and present, shape your experience of emotion, and your sense of self. When others see validity/invalidity, value/no-value, good/bad in your feelings, then you see your emotional life accordingly with validity/invalidity, value/unvalued, and so forth. So, let's talk about feelings and relationships.

How can I find a therapist in Santa Monica?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
