Many of the people I work with are ambitious, productive, and used to handling things on their own. At some point, substance use, compulsions, or anxiety begin to interfere with their health, relationships, or ability to keep things on track. If you're looking for something more private, individualized and focused than support groups, but aren't suited for inpatient care, you're in the right place. I intentionally limit the size of my practice, staying directly involved and responsive to your needs. I work with individuals, couples and families, to focus on what is practical, discreet, and workable in real life.

I work with adults navigating alcohol use, substance use, addiction, and the challenges that often come with them.
Tired of waking up wondering whether alcohol is taking more from your life than you want to admit? You may want to cut back, stop completely, or simply regain a sense of control. I help individuals—especially men—change their relationship with alcohol without shame, judgements, or feeling like there is only one option for change . Together, we identify patterns, build realistic coping skills, strengthen accountability, and create evidenced based steps toward moderation, abstinence, or sustained recovery. Whether you are questioning your drinking, returning after a relapse, or rebuilding your life, you do not have to do it alone.

I work with individuals, couples and families struggling with substance and alcohol use, as well as behavioral addictions such as porn, gambling, gaming etc.
Feeling overwhelmed by addiction and looking for a way forward? Seeking an alternative to rehab or unable to take leave from family, work and responsibilities? Overcoming addiction is hard, likely one of the hardest things you will go through, and you don't have to do it alone! I have served countless people, just like you, in finding a new path that doesn't depend on substances or behaviors that promise relief, but often bring guilt, regrets, dysfunctional moods, and damage the relationships of those we love the most. Freedom from addiction can be hard to imagine, I know firsthand. Seeking professional support is a great step!

Do you experience overwhelming thoughts and/or emotions? Do you experience inner-conflict and self doubt? Do you find yourself stuck in old patterns/behaviors and unsure of how to change them? For many these experiences can result in feeling frustrated, scared, hopeless and alone, often coping in self-damaging ways. These are normal responses to trauma and overwhelming/painful experiences. While I incorporate more traditional evidenced based modalities such as CBT, and DBT, I also recognize that emotions, implicit memories and trauma can get stuck in the body, which is why talk therapy alone often isn’t enough.

I work with people who want to understand themselves more deeply and feel more at home within themselves and their lives. You might be navigating a transition, questioning your relationship with yourself or others, feeling stuck in familiar patterns, or realizing old ways of surviving no longer fit. Life can get crowded with “shoulds.” Where you should be by now, how you should feel, what you should want, who you should be. Part of our work is dismantling those shoulds, rebuilding self-trust, and making more room for what feels true, meaningful, and alive to you.

I am here to help you get unstuck and reclaim your natural state of joy, well-being, purpose, and vitality. "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure (Marianne Williamson)." In our fast-paced world, it's easy to lose touch with ourselves and our sense of well-being. This has led to a rise in depression/anxiety, substance abuse, marital/relationship issues, and other difficulties. I am skilled at alleviating these symptoms and have been successful in working with individuals, couples, children/adolescents, and families of all ages backgrounds.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
