We are social beings that thrive on connection and a sense of belonging. I believe therapy is the most effective when we feel truly seen; that we matter. Seeking support can feel daunting and it takes courage to reach out and ask for help. Thank you for stopping here to learn more about me. I support individuals and couples in accessing their own innate wisdom and healing potential. My style is humanistic and
transpersonal

Crises and painful emotions can be the beginning of a journey toward transformation and wisdom. If you are looking for a deeper and more connected sense of yourself, and fulfillment in life, then you may be ready for a commitment to the therapeutic process. I believe my empathic presence - the capacity to hear, see and feel a situation from the other person's vantage point- is central to the healing process. Within such a safe relationship the patient can develop an open attitude toward the unconscious; exploration of the meaning and purpose of one's life can unfold.

I taught yearly courses on grief at JFK University, the Institute of
Transpersonal
Psychology and UC Extension Santa Cruz.
My work as a therapist is to create a safe, supportive space for clients to open up, experience life as it is right now, and explore whatever is calling out for attention from within or from outer challenges.
This work is empowering to my clients as they connect with a flow of healing and transformation from within themselves and learn new tools for living more fully-tools that they can carry into their lives long after our time together has passed.

Most people are afraid of suffering. But suffering is a kind of mud to help the lotus flower of happiness grow. There can be no lotus flower without the mud." -Thich Nhat Hanh. We all have moments of feeling stuck and scared. Life brings us countless challenges and obstacles and sometimes we need support from others to help us get through difficult times. Seeking therapy is the beginning of you blooming into a lotus flower and rising from the ashes. You have the answers within you and the capacity to heal.

I have been working with people to achieve happier and more contented lives and relationships for more than 20 years. I have a particular interest in working with people who are interested in changing habit patterns that are familiar but not working. We all have habitual patterns of doing, being, and relating that may not be what we want in our lives today yet they persist as they have been reinforced over time. Some habits we have learned stem from childhood, others we may have developed as adults.

At points in life we all find ourselves in a place of not knowing. Not knowing how to manage feelings, thoughts, and experiences; not knowing what to do about or how to recover from life events; not knowing how to be with others or with the difficulties that arise from being alive and human. I view therapy as a tool for healing and healing as something that begins when we learn how to listen to and relate to ourselves differently. I help individuals, couples and families of diverse backgrounds and identities transform how they relate to themselves and to others in a way that opens the door for healing.

Transpersonal Therapists
How does transpersonal therapy work?
Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.
How long does transpersonal therapy last?
Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.
Is transpersonal therapy effective?
Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilize the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.
What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?
There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
