I work with clients on anxiety, depression, relationship issues, life transitions, grief, parenting, self-care, compulsion/addiction issues, identity/sexuality, PTSD, eating disorders, body image issues, self esteem and many other life challenges.
As I see it, the primary role of a counselor is to serve as a mirror to help reveal what the client hasn't yet been able to see-especially those patterns of relating to self, others, and the environment that might be causing suffering. At the same time, the counselor is there to reflect, affirm, and strengthen the client's unique gifts and talents. One of the biggest impediments to healing, growth, and creativity is shame. To help clients move through this debilitating emotion, I use a combination of mindfulness, body awareness, and other healing modalities.

I believe the most important element for positive change is the relationship between the therapist and client. If the client can truly trust their therapist, he or she can allow themselves to explore, heal, and integrate all aspects of themselves. This leads to a feeling of wholeness and relief from anxiety, depression, low self esteem , and other issues. I use intuition and compassion, in addition to my training and education. I care about my clients, and feel honored to witness their efforts to grow and change. Buddhist philosophy informs my overall orientation towards the enduring resilience of the human spirit.

Hello! I’m so glad you found me. My approach to therapy is to engage the whole person in order to integrate the mind and body. Movement in therapy can range from focusing on breath to self-lead movement expression, and can be used with any age and ability. Artistic expression is used to deepen the therapeutic work through the creative process. I view my clients holistically and utilize the knowledge I gain regarding their life history and their social atmosphere to guide them in therapy. I work collaboratively with my clients to make meaningful change, respecting my clients’ individuality and autonomy.

I believe therapy is the development of a safe and trusting relationship between the facilitator and the participant. Therapy can be hard work and getting started can be scary, however making art, using play or being in nature can ease this process. As your therapist I will encourage you to use your creative imagination as a vehicle to understanding your inner turmoil, psychic pain or stagnancy. Along the way we will be implementing these effective tools in cultivating a more fulfilling life experience.

Human beings are complex. Part of us wants to make a change in our life, while another part holds on tightly to the way things are. We have parts that are harsh and critical, parts that are kind and gentle. Mature parts that show up like a boss, and childlike parts that just want someone else to take care of things for once. If you’re feeling pulled in multiple directions by different parts of yourself, and having trouble figuring out how to fit all the pieces together, I’d love to be the therapist to support you on that journey.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
